IIVIP'ROVEMENT IN OIL-INJECTORS FOR STEAM AND OTHER ENG-INERY.
The schedule referred to in these Letters Parent and making pan of the saine., v,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT BrArroN, of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky, and State of Ohio, have iu- -vented a certain new and improved Oil-Injector; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference beingliad to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in Whichn Figure 1 is a side vieu7 of the injector.
Figure 2, a view of the top.
Figure 3, a longitudinal section..
`Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the different views.
This invention is for the purpose of injecting oil into steam-cbests, cylinders, and other places subject to a pressure of steam, whichbrdinarily is inaccessible to oil, its application being resisted by the activity of the steam.
In g. l, A represents a' section 0f a pipe or barrel,
in which is tted a stop-cock, B, said cock being provided with an oil-cup, G, all of which is or may be constructed in the .ordinary Way.
D isadischarging-cock, tted to the pipe in like manner.
In the pipe referred to is fitted a pistou, E, it being made tight, o close-fitting, by a stuffing-box, F.
The outer end of said piston is provided with a knob,
whereby it is operated as follows: Y
The end of the pipe is screwed into the chest, cylinder, or other desirable place.
The cup is now iilled with oil, from which it is received into the tube, and by drawing'outthe piston, this creates a vacuum, into which the'oill isforced from the cup, on' turning the cock for that purpose. On iilling the tube, the cup-cockie'closed, and, in turn, the exhaus'ccock opened. Now, 'on forcing back the piston, the oil will be driven into the chest, cylinder, or other Working-part of the machine, Without Wasting the oil, which Waste isl quite large when applied in the' ordinary way.
rIhe advantages of this improvement are, the rapid'- ity, certainty, and economy over theordinary way of oiling, for, as ordinarily practised, not only is there ae Waste of oil, but an uncertainty in its application to the parts, causing thereby injury to the Works, by cutting and friction, which, however, is avoided by "the use of this `injector, as all the oil is driven into the cylinder or other'working-parts, without being exfpelled, or-exposed to dust and dirt. p Y
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y The piston E, pipe or barrel A, oil-cup and cock C B, and discharging-cock D, when arranged and oper- 'ating conjointly, substantially as set forth.
' ROBERT BRAYTON.
