To all zuiwnr it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ERNEST L. BUZZELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nail-Polishers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to finger-nail polishers, and has for its object to combine in a single structure a flexible pad provided upon one of its surfaces with a olishing compound and upon its other sur'ace with a finishing polishing surface.

My invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the device in plan view with the finishing polishing surface uppermost. Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 3 shows a plan View with the surface carrying the polishing compound uppermost.

Similar reference characters will be used throughout the specification and drawings to designate corresponding parts.

In the drawings the device as a whole is represented by the letter A. It comprises a flexible body portion a, made of any desired cushioning fibrous material, preferably felt. The body portion a isshaped, as shownin the drawings, preferably rectangular or oblong in plan and having its edges beveled, as shown at a. Upon one surface of the cushioningpad a is adhesively secured a polishing compound a which when applied will impregnate the fibrous material of the pad or body portion a, and this polishing compound may consist of any desired polishing material, such aspumice-stone and wax, which, mixed in the proper proportions, forms a paste which can be applied adhesively, as shown in the drawings. The surface formed by the polishing compound will be preferably scored diagonally, as indicated by the lines a The opposite surface of the pad or body portion a is the finishing polishing surface and may consist of a surface of the fibrous pad a; but preferably it consists of a surface of chamois skin a or other suitable material, which is adhesively secured to the pad or cushion a.

I may substitute a body portion made of light wood, such as soft pine or holly, for the felt body portion; but so far as now known to me felt is the preferred material. I desire to state that the particular polishing compound used to form the polishing-surface a forms no part of the present invention and that the invention is not limited to forming said compound of any particular materials, it being necessary only that the material shall be of such a nature that the gritty or granu lar polishing compound shall be held in a suitable body which will adhesively secure it to the surface of the pad or cushion a by impregnating the fibers thereof and which will be softened to a certain extent by the friction generated in its use.

Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States 1. A nail-polisher comprising a flexible cushion or body portion formed of a single integral piece of fibrous material, provided upon one side With a polishing compound laid upon and impregnating the fibrous body portion and having upon another side a finishing polishing surface, substantially as described.

2. A nail-polisher comprisin a flexible cushion or body portion, formed of a single piece of fibrous material, having upon one side a polishing compound adhesively applied thereto and impregnating the fibrous body portion, and upon its opposite side a polishing-strip of chamois skin or other suitable material, substantially as described.

3. A nail-polisher comprising a flexible cushion or body portion formed of a single piece offibrous material provided with beveled edges, and having upon one side a polishing compound impregnating the fibrous body portion, and upon its opposite side a finishing polishing surface, substantially as described.

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 848,345, granted March 26, 1907,

upon the application of Ernest L. Buzzell, of Lynn, Massachusetts, for an improvement in Nail-Polishers, an error appears on the drawings requiring correction, as

follows: In Figure 2, the reference-letter and words a Finishing Polishing Oompound should read 0 Finishing Polishing Surface; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Ofiice.
