PROPELLER-WHEEL.

Be it known that I, J osnrn DE LA MAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Propeller-Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to propeller-wheels and it has particular reference to what is known as spiral propellers, in Which a plurality of blades is disposed along the shaft. MgMy object is to provide a propeller which, in its rotary motion will oifer' as little resistance as possible at the core of the wheel, and to this end I have devised a spirally- -formed rib, the opposite ends of which are rigidly secured to the shaft, and which has thereon removable blades within and without the rib whereby an effective action is roducecll by the same, as will now be set fort in detai In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved form of propeller-wheel,

In constructing my invention I provide a' propeller-shaft 3, on which I lace two fixed collars 4 5, to the forward col ar 4 of which I attach one end of a spirally-formed rib 6 and to the rear collar is attached the rear end of the rib. This attachment may be made by means of screws 7 or otherwise, and these collars are keyed (not shown) or otherwise rigidly secured to the shaft. Exteriorly on this rib and at suitable intervals I place blades 8. These may be secured by bolts 9' caused by the collars to which the ends of the ribs are attached.-
Interiorly blades 12 are placed on the rib equal in'number to the exterior blades, or a greater or less number, as may be considered most effective, and these may be located without reference to the location of the outer blades. In this case, however, I show the interior bladesattached by the same bolts as are employed to secure the outer blades and Specification of Letters Patent.

they are also disposed at the same pitch. In practice the inner blades should have a greater pitch than the outer blades, as will be obvious to the engineer.
By reference to Letters Patent No. 823,476, issued to me on the 12th day of June, 1906, it will be seen that the spirally-formed rib has one of its ends secured to a tubular shaft and its other end to an inner shaft and that the exterior blades are attached to the rib, while the interior blades are attached to the inner shaft and the two sets of blades revolve in the opposite direction. Such construction, however, necessitates gearing which I dispense with in the present invention. In the present invention it will be obvious that I have simplified the construction, inasmuch as I attach both ends of the spiral rib to a single shaft and have both the inner and the outer blades attached ,to a rib, which therefore frees the shaft of any collars or other necessary obstructions necessary to attach blades thereto and greatly cheapens the construction.
What I claim as new is 1. A propeller-wheel, comprising a shaft having "thereon a spirally-formed rib, both having blades thereon. I

A propeller-wheel, comprising a shaft having thereon a spirally-formed rib, both ends of which are rigldly secured thereto, and havin a plurality of interior blades thereon. a 4. i propeller-wheel, comprising a shaft having thereon a spirally-formed rib, both ends of which are rigidly secured thereto, and having a plurality of exterior and interior blades.
5. A propeller-wheel, comprising a shaft having thereon a spirally-formed rib, both ends of which are rigidly secured thereto, and having blades thereon adapted to be adjusted at any desired pitch.
6. A propeller-wheel, comprising a shaft having thereon a spirally-formed rib, with its opposite ends rigidly secured thereto having exterior blades and interior blades attached thereto, one set of blades being adapted to be adjusted at a different pitch from the other set;
