Be it known that I, FRANK TILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at McPherson, in the county of McPherson, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Haystack-Covers and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has a special reference to covers for protecting stacks of hay, straw, or grain from rain or snow; and its several objects are to construct a device of that nature which may be readily ap lied or taken down, which maybe simply an cheaply constructed, and which may be used season after sea son without alteration.

The particular improvements consist in forming a sectional roof or cover whose members are in turn each composed of a number of separate parts, the various parts of each member being adjustably and separably connected with each other and the members themselves adapted to slide under each other, thus effecting a roof whose members are sepa rably connected and in addition are laterally telescopic with respect to each other.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a cover for a hay-stack constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, the cover will be seen to consist of a middle section 5 and

end sections

6 and 7, the inner ends of which extend slightly beneath and beyond the ends of the middle section. Each section consists, as shown in Fig. 2, of a top piece 8, of sheet metal, bent in cross-section to form the apex or gable of -the cover. The opposite sides of each section 8 are connected, by means of hinge 9,to a central plate 1.0,likewise formed of sheet metal and provided with extensions 11, having keyhole-slots 12, in which are retained headed bolts 13, extending upwardly of the upper 'end of side panels 14. The opposite end of each top section is provided with a strip of iron bent to conform to the shape of said sections and acting as a brace therefor. It will thus be seen that the various parts of each section are readily detachable from eachother and that when not in use said parts may be folded upon each other and will occupy but little floor-space.

5, 6, and 7 is the same, the description of any one section will therefore be the same as that of the other two and will apply thereto.

As above stated, the inner ends of the end sections extend a slight distance beyond the corresponding ends of the middle section, and it will therefore -be apparent that either one of said end sections may be moved laterally beneath the middle section, thus exposing approximately a third of the stack when it is desired to cut off a corresponding portion thereof. The width of the middle section will therefore be slightly greater than that of the end sections.

The cover is held in place upon the stack by means of chains 15, are connected tothe lower end of the several side panels 14, and having their free end connected with a stake adapted to be forced into the ground.

What is claimed is- 1. A haystack-cover comprising a middle section and two end sections, each section being composed of detachablyconnected parts, said middle section being disposed above said end sections with its side edges overhanging the side edges of the end sections, whereby said end sections may be telescoped bodily laterally beneath said middle section.

2. A haystack-cover comprising a middle section and a pair of end sections, each section comprising a top piece forming the gable thereof, a pair of central plates attached to the lower edges of the top piece, and a depending panel secured to the lower edge of each central plate, the middle section being disposed above the end sections with its side edges overhanging the side edges of the end sections, whereby said end sections may be telescoped bodily laterally beneath said middle section.
