Be it known that I, ORLA H. 11min, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have inventedcertain' new and useful lmprovements in Automatic IllVindows, of 'which the following isv aspeci'lication.
This invention relates to improvements in iireproofivindows of that type which is arranged t`o close and be locked automatically in the presence of fire',` and the invention is concerned more particularly with certain iinproved sash-locking devices which. are admirably adapted for the automatic iireproo'f Windows.
It has been observed that when a ireproof vwindow is subjected to intense heat, as iii a hre, the distortion and 'warping are so` great that ordinary catches or the like c annot y safely be relied upon to hold the window closed. Moreover, such Windows are in case oi' lire subjected to the action of streams of Water from hose, andwhere the locking mechanism is exposed it is liable to be released by the impact .of the Water'.
The salient objects of my invention areto provide an automatic sash-locking mechanism 'Which is very strong and which cannot be rendered inoperative nor thrown out by distortion of the lsash or 'sash-frame and Which will tol a great degree prevent such distortion; to provide an automatic sash-lock ing device 'whicl'i is conceal'edand protected, yet readily accessible for inspection or re' air, and to provide an automatic sash-loclking mechanisniwliich will act upon the iull length tion of the samein the hollow lower sash-rail or elsewhere.-
To the. above ends my invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
