Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 5, 1907.
Application filed June 11, 1906. erial No. 321,252.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR JoHNsoN BRooKs, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing atUrInston, in the city of Manchester, England, have invented a new and useful Boot Cleaning and PolishingOutfit, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to an improved boot cleaning and polishing outfit, the object being to provide such an outfit in a complete, self-contained, compact, and easily-manipu lated form for ordinary domestic use or for use when traveling.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved boot cleaning and polishing outfit, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation of same.
In constructing my said invention I mount on a central rotatable spindle A the block A, carrying the necessary brushes, the polishing-pad B, and the box or receptacle O, containing the supply of paste or blacking, the whole being mounted in suitable bearings within a frame D and being adjustable therein (so as to enable the various brushes and the pad to be successively brought into operation) by means of a spring push-knob E and a sliding locking-plate F, engaging with a squared part f of the spindle. The said frame D may be of such a shape as to itself form a handle, or a separate handle G of any convenient size and shape may be attached thereto in any convenient manner.
The number of brushes employed may be varied in accordance with requirements; but the set comprises, preferably, a hard brush H for removing the dirt, a small brush or tuft K for applying the olish or blacking, and a soft polishing-brush together with the polishing-pad B. The boX O is preferably fitted within a recess provided at one end of the block A on the same side as the blackingbrush K and is detachably secured in position therein by means of a spring-clip M or like device.
I claim The combination, with a handle provided with a guide, of a shaft journaled in the said handle and provided with a rectangular portion, a block secured 011 the said shaft and having a plurality of polishing devices, and a locking-plate slidable in the said guide and provided with a jaw for engaging with the said rectangular portion of the shaft.
ARTHUR JOHNSON BROOKS.
