Description

PATENTED MAR. 5, 1907.
A. PAYTON. LOSS PREVENTING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 21, 1906.
)A/VENZ'OI? 8)" g 1 ATTORNEY n12 NORRIS PETERS 60., WASHINGTON, n. c.
ALMA PAYTON, OF SYLVESTER, GEORGIA.
Y LOSS-PREVENTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 5, 1907.
Application filed a c 21,1906. Serial No. 307,171.
To 011% whom, it nwty concern:
Be it known that I, ALMA PAYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in Sylvester, in the county of WVorth and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Loss-Preventing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawmgs.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for preventing the loss of articles of apparel and personal wear; and the object of my invention is to provide an article of the class described which will be cheap in manufacture, simple in construction, and positive and efficient in operation.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view in closed position, and Fig. 4 is a central vertical sectional view in open position.
The pin a is provided at its top with a lug b, extendingiroin it at substantially right angles. In the lug b is pivoted at c the back plate 01, formed with a slot 6, within which the end of the lug 7) projects. Between the front plate 0 f and the back plate (1 is interposed a flat or leaf spring 9, secured to the back plate cl and so adjusted as to bear in both the open and closed position of the device against one of the flat faces h i of the lug I). From the rear face of the back plate projects a lug j, the end of which is forked, and thereby formed with the teeth or prongs 7c.
' When the device is in its closed position, Fig. 3, the pin a enters between the prongs 7c, the latter passing through the material of the article to which the device is affixed. The leaf-spring g bears against the flat face h of the lug b and holds the prongs is securely against disengagement, and thereby prevents the loss of the device.
"What I claim is As an article of manufacture, a device of the character described comprising a front plate concave at its back and having an inturned edge, a back plate secured in said inturned edge of the front plate and having an upright slot in the upper portion and also having a lug fixed to and extending rearward from its lower portion and terminating in a fork, a leaf-spring arranged and movable between the front plate and the back plate, and a pin having a lug extending forward at a right angle from, its upper end; the said lug being pivoted and movable in the slot of the back plate and having flat faces at right angles to each other at its forward end and upper edge arranged to engage the leaf-spring alternately for the purposes set forth.
ALMA PAYTON.
