Be it known that I, AnoHIBALD C. Mo-- LEoD, acitizen of the United States, and a'| resident of Quitmainin the county of Brooks and State of Georgia, have made certain i new and useful Improvements in Turpentine-Boxes, of which the following is a speci fication.
I My invention is an improvement in turpentine-boxes, and consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of arts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box as-in use. Fig. 2 is a detail the tree. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the box. Fig. 4 is an end view of the box, and Fig. 5 is a cross-section thereof.
The box A is of suitable sheet metal and is preferably formed from a single piece or lank cut to form the front p ate A, the back plate A, and the bottom plate A, the ends being formed by wings or extensions a, a and a on the parts A; A and A, said end wings being lapped together nd soldered, as will be understood from ig. 4 of the drawings.
At its 11 per edge the back plate A is provided wit 1 a rearwardly-projecti g flan e A, which extends at a slight incl ne to t e back plate and is adapted to be inserted in a saw kerf or groove cut by a saw, ax, or other tool in the side of the tree, so as to prevent any of the sa from passing down between the tree and t 'e box. The bottom A of the box is flat, and when a paddle conforming thereto. is applied the contents of the box coils C which give the desired resiliency to the dogs in securing the box by means of said dogs to the tree. I thus wire the u per are provided adjacent to t e box with the 'cdge of'the front and ends of the boxan extend the wire thus introduced into the front and the ends of the box beyond the box to form the means for securing the box to a tree. This is important, as it enables me to strengthen the box at the points where strength is needed, giving it the desired rigidity at its upper open end and by the same means secure to the box the devices designed for holding the box to the tree in the use of the invention.
What I claim is- A box and a. reinforcing-wire having a front portion wired to the upper edge of the front of the box and provided at its ends with rearwardly-projecting portions wired to the upper edges of the pposite endsof the box and extended rearwardly beyond the ,box to connect with a'tree.
