Description

JUSTUS J. soHULZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINoIs.
COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 30, 1906.
Patented Feb. 19, 1907.
Serial No. 814,372.
To all whom it 'nwty concern:
Be it known that I, JUsTUs J. SoHULz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illino s, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in combs, and has for its object the provision of a simpleand effective means, in combination with the comb itself, for readily making and indicating the parts or divisions almost always present in the various styles or manners of arranging or combing the hair.
To the accomplishment of the above objects my invention consists of a new and novel structure and combination, as will presently appear.
The drawing is a side view of a comb embodying my invention.
In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the back of a comb; 2, the teeth of a comb; 3, a blank attached to the back 1 in a manner similar to that for attaching the teeth or in any other suitable manner. The said blank 3 occupies the space of several teeth and is provided upon its outer unattached end with the space portions 4, whose edges aline slightly back of the alinement of the ends of the teeth and the parter 5. The edges of the spaced portions 4 perform the function of smoothing and slightly compressing the adjacent filaments of the hair, thereby leaving the part or division made by the parter 5 clear and distinct.
In using my invention the hair is first untangled and straightened with the teeth of the comb, the parter is then passed over the place where it is desired to have the part, thereby clearly indicating the division-line, and the further arrangement of the hair is accomplished with the teeth of the comb and a brush in the usual manner.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing, it is evident that I provide in a comb a part maker and indicator extremely simple in construction and effective in operation.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a comb means for making and clearly marking a part consisting of a blank having an edge adapted to smooth I the filaments of the hair, said edge being provided with a projection for making the part.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JUSTUS J. SCHULZ.
