COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
FAUCET'.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application filed January 8, 1906. Serial No. 295,106.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES C. 'WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain newand useful improvements in faucets, and has for its object to provide a faucet that is especially adapted to'be used in dispensing any heavy or thick liquids, such as molasses.
Another object of my invention is to provide a faucet which is very simple and cheap in construction and one which is very effective in use. I I A further object of my invention is to provide a faucet with a Weighing attachment, so
that the vessel adapted to receive the liquid can be placed on a platform and the faucet opened and closed automatically when therequired amount is secured in the vessel.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide certain new and improved tripper means in connection with the turning plug and scale, so that when the required amount of liquid has been secured in the vessel it will be nee-ted to'the faucet.
automatically cut off.
\Vith these objects in View the invention consists of the novel features of construction and coi'nbination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
in the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the faucet; showing it attached to a barrel. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of'the turning plug and handle.
Referring t r the drawings, A indicates the tube or body'portion of the faucet, adapted to be secured in the barrel B and is provided with a transverse opening A, in which a turning plug C, provided with a passage (3, is mounted. One end of the p ug is provided with a handle O carr ing a coil-spring at one end, the other end of which is conon the faucet adjacent the opening A and is adapted to form a stop for the handle to prevent it from turning too far. The other end of the plug O is provided with a reduced. threaded portion, on which a cam-washer C is secured by a nut. The other end of the A pin A is arranged I body portion of the faucet is provided with i an upwardly-extending portion A provided with outwardly-extending lugs A", A and A. The lugs A and A are provided with openings through which a bar D, carrying a cross-bar E, is adapted to work. An opening D is formed in the upper end of the bar D, through which a link 1) is adapted to be connected. The other end of the link is connected to the end of a scale-beam F, provided with projecting pins F, over which a hanger F is adapted to fit, supported by a hook carried by the lug A The bar I is provided with an ordinary weight F. A platform G is supported below the bar E y bars G, upon which the vessels are adapt-- ed to be placed. A pawl H is pivotally mounted on the side of the body of the faucet and is adapted to be held in engagement with the notch of the cam-washer C by a coil-spring H. The up ior end of the pawl is provided with a notch adapted to be engaged by a pin D, carried by the bar D, and throw the pawl out of engagement with the plug, allowing the spring connecting to the handle to close the same.
The operation is as follows: A vessel is placed on the platform and the weight adjusted on the beam to the amount desired. The plug is then turned by the handle until the notch of the washer is engaged by the pawl, which will allow the liquid to pass out until the required amount has been received in the vessel, which will trip the pawl and allow the spring connected to the h .d e to close the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is-
l. The combination with a faucet, provided with a scale-beam, of a bar carried by said beam supporting a platform, a latch pivoted to said faucet, means carried by the turning plug of the faucet adapted to be ongagcd by said latch and a pin carried by the 'platform-supporting bar adapted to engage said latch, for the purpose described.
2. The combioathm with a faucet provided with a spring-actuatod turning plug, of a weighing-scaleoarriod by said faucet, and tripping means pivoted to the faucet adapted to be engaged by the scale, for the purpose (.lescribed.
3. The combination with a fauc I provided with a springnctuated turning plug carrying a notched washer, ot a \Vtlfilllllg scale carried by said faucet, and a pawl held 1 in engagement with.thonotched washer ol' the plug adapted to bo engagial by the scale, for the purpose described.
4. The combination with a faucet pro- \idcd with a spring-actuated turning plug carrying a notched washer, ol. a sprmg-actw ated pawl pivoted to said faucet adapted to cngagc the notch in said washer, a scalebeam mounted ,on said iaucet carrying a bar supporting aplati'orm and n'ieans connected to thc bar for engaging said pawl, lor the purportion, a platform connected to said bar, a scale-beam mounted on the upper end of said portion and connected to said bar, a weight carried by said 1 am, and a pin carried by said bar, adapted to engage said pawl, for the purposedescribed.
c. The UUlllbillzltlOll I \ided with a turning plug, of a notched washer secured on one end of said plug, an arm secured on tho other end. of said plug, a spring connecting the lower end of said with a laucctproarm to said l'aueet carrving a. bar, a scalebeam'mounted on said faucet, supporting a platlorm, a sprm ggactuatml pawl pivoted to 1 said lancet adapted to engage said'washcr and a pm carried by the bar adapted to enated pawl pivoted to said faucet adapted to engage the notch-Washer, an upwardlv-extending portion formed on tho out-er end of the faucet, a bar shdably mounted on said 1 gage said pawl. for the purpose (,lescribed.
