VAPORIZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application filed December 11,1905. Serial No, 291,232.
it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in Vaporizers, more especially designed for use in alleviating or curing asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, croup, hay-fever, whooping- I5 cough, and other respiratory diseases and for generating vapors for deodorizing and disinfecting and destroying insect life and germs.
The object of my invention is to provide a vaporizer by means of which vapor may be caused to pass through suitable absorbent material, which is saturated with a medicament or che iiicals, and thereby impregnated and rendered destructive to all germs in rooms where infectious diseases have been, in de stroying weevil in wheat, and insects destructive to other grain, and many other uses.
It also has for its object to provide a.- 3 vaporizer which 13 simple, inexpensive, and
durable in construction and exceedingly easy and effective in use.
My invention consists in the several features and COD'lblllfLtI-Qll of features as herein- 3 5 after more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the vaporizer; Fig. 2-, a central vertical section of the boiler; Figs. 3 and 4, top plan and side views of the perfoo rated plate and the device designed to be grasped by the fingers to facilitate the removal of said plate; Fig. 5, a side view of a modification in which two perforated plates are used instead of one.
In the drawings, in which like numerals of reference denote like parts throughout the several views, 1 represents a lamp, which may be of any desired type; 2, removable standards mounted in pockets 3, arranged around the lamp and each provided with inwardly-extending lugs 4 at the top.
5 is a boiler seated on the lugs 4 of the standards '2 and provided on the inside, preferably adjacent its top, with an annular shank.
ridge or projection 6, and 7 is a cover for said boiler, which is provided with a nozzle 8 for the purpose of delivering the medicated vapor from the vaporizer. A -perforated detachable plate 9 is seated on the annular ridge 6, and the lower edge of the cover 7 retains said plate in place. Cotton or other absorbent material 10 is placed on top of the perforated plate and saturated with the de sired medicament, deodorizer, disinfectant, or chemicals.
11 represents a device designed to be grasped by the fingers to facilitate the removal of the perforated plate and also to re tain the absorbent material thereon and which consists of a head 12, having a shank 13 and a disk 14, adapted to be fitted. on said In the modified form shown in Fig. 5 an additional perforated plate 15 is em ployed to more securely hold the cotton on the plate 9.
In use the cover and perforated plate are removed and the boiler partially filled with water, the medicament, deodorizer, or disinfectant to be vaporized is placed on the cotton or other absorbent, the perforated plate and cover are then replaced, and the lamp lighted. When the temperature of the wa- 'ter contained within the boiler arrives at a degree of heat sufficient to generate steam, the steam will pass up through the perforated plate and the cotton thereon and vaporize the medicament, deodorizer, or disinfectant and then pass out through the opening or the nozzle in the cover.
It is manifest that changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.
That I claim is 1. A vaporizer consisting of a vessel adapted to contain hot water and having means to support a perforated plate designed to have absorbent material saturated witha medicament placed thereon, and means for assisting in the handling of said plate and also for retaining absorbent material thereon, com prising a shank passing through said plate and having a head abutting against the lower surface of the same, and a removable disk placed above said plate having a hole adapted to frictionally engage said shank, substantially as described.
2. A vaporizer comprising a boiler with a perforated plate designed to have absorbent material placed thereon saturated with a medicament, a projection on the side of the boiler for supporting said plate, a cover having its lower edge abutting against the upper surface of said plate for the purpose of retaining the plate in position on said projection, and means for retaining the absorbent material on said plate and also for assisting in the removal of the plate, comprising a shank having a head at its lower end and a remov able disk having a hole and designed to frictionally engage said shank, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
