WASHING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 190'?.
Application led February' 8, 1906. Serial No. 300,117.
general purposes stated.
The invention consists oi' the s ecial construction, arrangement, and com ination of parts, shown by the accompanying drawings, and hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form` of my improved washing apparatus. Fig. 2 is a view of the same apparatus illustrated in longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a side view of another Jform of my washing apparatus. Fig. 4 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the nozzle end of the form of apparatus illustrated by Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is an enlarged side elevation of the nozzle end of the form of apparatus illustrated by Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 4; and Fig. 7 is a detached detail perspective view of the sponge-holding clamps employed with the form of apparatus illustrated by- Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
The invention, broadly, comprehends a peculiar nozzle, having a suitable handle, a water-supply pipe connected with the nozzle passage-way, a cut-oil' valve for the control of water, a sponge, brush, or similar scrubbing means, and peculiar me ans for support thereof, in iront of the discharge opening of the nozzle.
In the practice of my invention I employ a suitable tubular 'body A, having a detachable nozzle end B. The other end of the tubular body A is provided with a hollow body constructed into two parts C D. In the body part C, I arrange a cut-off valve E, adapted for operation by means of `an external handle F or other approved means. Upon lreference to Fig. 2 it .will be noticed that the passage-way-through the body portion D is made leading through a lateral eX- tension G, with the latter adapted for application thereto of a water-conveying tube H. In further carrying out the aforesaid comprehension of my invention I employ a suitable handle I, as an extension ofthe tubular passage-ways A C D, the same being designed to facilitate handling of the apparatus, as will be understood.
At the nozzle end of the apparatus I may employ a sponge J, with the same supported by means of clamping-arms K L, hingedly l connected at their lower ends by means of a link L substantially as shown by Fig. 7.
Upon reference to Figs. 4 and 6 it will be noticed that the nozzle B is constructed with a longitudinal groove M, adapted for receiving the clamping-arms K L, and also that said arms are secured in the groove M by collars N O, arranged in two oi the three nozzleencircling grooves 1 2 3. The lower collar is arranged extending through the link L', as shown.
In some instances it will be desirable to hold the s onge J in advance oi the dischargeopening rom the nozzle, and the same may be effected by arranging the collars in the encircling grooves 1 2, as will be understood upon reference to Fig. 4. The collars` N U are adapted for making the adjustment stated by forming them into an elastic coil with loose ends, as best shown by Fig. 5 of my drawing.
My invention comprehends employment of a brush I (see Figs. 3 and 5) in place of the sponge or mop J illustrated in othervviews of the drawing, and providingv for its use I utilize an arm Q, constructed to lie in the longitudinal groove M in the nozzle and be secured by collars N O', similar to the clamping-arms K L.
The brush P may be securedto the projecting end of the arm Q by obvious means, and through support of the collars N O is adapted for adjustment similar to the sponge or mop J.
The form of apparatus shown provided with a handle I is designed for use in washing the outside of cars and other similar uses requiring a handle suitable for reaching purposes, but in adapting the apparatus for washing windows and other washing near at hand I detach the hollow body portion D and suitably connect one end of a pipe R with the hollow body C, the water-conveying tube H being arranged in connection with the, other end ofthe pipe R, as shown by Fi 3.
To prevent scratching action oi the nozzle end of the apparatus, tthe'same may be inclosed by a jacket S, (see Figs. 1 and 2,) and the jacket is secured by a simple draw-strin T at one or both ends thereof. The jacket IOO IIO
may be formed of fabric, leather, or other suitable material.
1. The combination with a tubular" bo'dy, of a two-part hollow body at one end of the tubular body, a cut-off valve in one-said hollow part, a handle secured to the other said hollow part, a lateral tubularextension on the latter hollow part, a nozzle at the other end of the tubular body a scrubbing medium, and jaws on the nozzle for holding the scrub'-4 bing medium, substantially as described.
2. A washing apparatus employing a tubular body, means for delivering water into theI tubular body, a cut-off valve in the water passage-way, a nozzle at the far end of the tubular body, the nozzle being constructed with longitudinal and transverse grooves, a
scrubbing medium, extension means arranged in said longitudinal groove, to carry thescrubbing medium at its projecting end, and collars arranged in said transverse grooves,v to'fsecure the extension means.
3.a A washing apparatus employing a tubular body, means for delivering Water into the tubular body, a cut-0H valve in the water vpassage-way, al nozzle at the far end of the tubular body, a scrubbing medium, means on the nozzle for carrying the scrubbing mediu1n,and a jacket arranged on the nozzle, inclosing same and portions of the carrying means for the scrubbing medium, substantia'lly as described'.
