BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented'reb. 5, 1907.
Application filed November 1,1905. `Serial No. 285,456.
provide means in4 such apparatus whereby.
the water is brought into intimate contact with desirable cleansing agents or other 'slowly-soluble matter before delivery; sec
ond, to provide means whereby water may be treated with siumnaeeous, detergent, mcdi cament., or perfume matter and immediately delivered while so charged; third, to provide means whereby the delivery may be direct in such spray form or through renewable textile fabrics adapted to contact with the body to be used as a flesh-brush; fourth, to provide means whereby the apparatus may be firmly but detaehablysecured to anysuitable source of'water-supply. These and minor other objects are attained by the novel device hereinafter funy described and shown in the aecompa-nying drawings, in which F igure' 1 is a general view showing my de- .vice with connecting-hose attached. Fig. is a side view, partially in section, of the stationary lreceiving and mixing chamber drawn to an enlarged scale. Fig. 8 is a sectional view of the delivery-chamber. Fig. t is a sectional view taken on line (ly a. of Fig. S. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the same, showing a wash-cloth attached; and Fig. (i is aside elevation of the delivery-eliamber.
In the drawings, l designates acylindrical body or easing havingr a head I2 removably secured to it, the same being adapted to conneet with any convenient source of watersupply. Within the lower part of the head, immediately above the walls of the casing, is secured a perforated plate 3 in such manner that all the water passing through theI .apparatus must pass through these perforations. At the lower end of the casing is another head 4. It is substantially conical in shape, the lower end terminating in a nozzle 5 of suitable shape to receive a connecting-hose G. Within the cylindrical casing and resting on the upper part of the head 4 is a second per l forated pla-te 7, which may preferably be eoarse-meshed grating, and loosely fitting the interior of the cylindrical `asing is a secondary cylinder S, likewise in the form of a net orgrate.
From the foregoing itwill be readilyunderstood that. water entering at the upper part of the apparatus will be diverted and broken up into minute streams er spray by the plate 3, through which it .must pass. On its further course it, must necessarily impinge upon whatever substance may be contained on the lower plate 7 and within the inner cylinder 8. lf the substance be of soluble nature, as a suitable bar of soap or other desirable matter, the water will gradually dissolve it, taking a portion in solution in its passage over and around it, delivering thc same in a combined stream at the. nozzle 5. lt may beforther noticed that. the arrangement is such that whatever substance is placed on the lower' perforated plate is subjected to the action of the water on all sides.
Leading from the nozzle 5 is a section of tlexible hose attached to its other end to the top 9 of the deliverychamber `10, to which it is removably secured. This deliverychamber is similarly constructed, consisting of the outer wall or easing l() and an inner perforated wallslining ll. At the lower end of the chamber 10, removably secured to the walls of the chamber 1t), is a helically-coiled wire spring l2, adapted to support and maintain .tt a. slight distance above the perforated rubber brush 13 whatever substance may be placed upon it and to allo an uninterrupted circulatlm of water about it; also. to form a tlexible support for the rubber brush, so the saire will conform to the surface of the body. The exterior lower walls of the chamber 10 are. so fashioned as to receive the edges of a suitable rubber brush 13, having the usual depending projections and perferations. Suitable wash-cloths 14 can be secured to the lower part of the chamber 10 by an elastic band 15, the said wash-cloths overlying the rubber brush, which acts as a cushion thereto. The purpose of this delivery-ehamber is to facilitate the complete mixing of the treated water with any further matter as a com-` 'bined soap mixture and salt or a perfume. It further enables the operator to so manipulate the spray as to obtain the flow-Wherever it may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what IOO I claim asnew, ard desire to secure by Let- 1 ters Patent, is-
l. YIn a bathing apparatus, the combination with a mixing-chamber 'having a perfo.
rate liningl adapted to contain saponaceous or other supply, ci a delivery-chamber connected thereto, perforate Walls Within the` chamber, means therein to maintain matter subject to complete envelopment irl-the Wa-' livery-perforatiena-all substantially asshown l ter and means to prevent clogging; of the dei, and described;
1.2.* Ina bathing` apparatus, the combina@ tion Width a suitable casing havinga perforate lining, of sustaining means therein adaptedto 'retain saponacecus or other material, means for removably securing to the/said casing flexible material adapted to receive and transmit the stream passing through the' apparatus and of means for connecting the said apparatus to' a. su ply source, all substanetially as shown an described 3. In av bathing apparatus, the combination-With a mixing-chamber adapted to" receive a stream of Water, ci means therein' to form a spray therefrom, means for retaining matter in said chamber, until dissolved and described.
4. In a bathing apparatus, Ithe combination With a receiving-chamber, having suitable inlet and outlet-connections and adapted to be attached to a source of supply of Water, of a perfigbrate lining therein entirely surrounding the? interior, a lower cover removably secured thereto, a7 delivery-chamber,
\ means of connectionl between the receivingand delivery chambers,a periorate cap and perforate side WallslWit-hin the deliverychamber attached therein, a helically-ociled spring at the open bottom, said spring formdescribed.
@aegee ing a seat for substance placed' Within the chamber and an apertured rubber ,brush attached to the outer walls of said deliverychamber bel'ow said spring, all substantially as shown and described. r
5. fn a bathing apparatus, the combination with a' fixed receiving-chamber adapted @contain saponaceous or other soluble mat-v ter `in such manner as to' be surrounded by water, means whereby the Water is sprayed f on the said substance causing effective dissevluticnl thereoh'a second or' delivery chamber flexibly connected with the first, means for such connection, means Within the deliveryf chamberK adaptedy to .contain other soluble matten means for spraying'` thel educt from the first chamber upon the contents of' the second chamber, means-for discharging` the stantially as shown-and described.
6. In' a bathing apparatus,^the combinationwith as'ource of Water-supply,l ofa heb,
combined solutions in; the formy raf-'spray and vmeans for bafliingsaid dischargafall" Sublow casing adaptedhto be attached toI said' -1 source ci supply, a detachable'lower head te said casing, an aperturedplate held in'l thev casingnear its upper endg. an inner perforate cylinder Within the casingforming a lining.` t creto, a perlcrate bottomplate'adapted to' sustain substances placed thereon,l the same Vbeing surrounded `by Water when'in o arab' tion, an'cutlet at the extremity of the OWerI head, asecondary chamber, means of conneetion between the main and secondary chamL bers, perforate linings Within the secondary chamber, means therein' of support to substances within the secondary chamber and means ci attachment thereto of suitable-Herri#- ble brushes, all substantially as shown.
