COMBENED' TRQUSERS STRETCHER AND PRESSER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Apnlication filed April 11,
Patented Feb. 5, 1807. 1906. SericdNaSlLlOQ- To (LU whom 1ft 'lll/tbj/ (,QILUIFIFL.
Be it known that I, S'rnrnnn S. ZIGLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at 0x I ford Junction, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in a Coinbined 'lrousers- Stretcher and lrcsser; and 1 do hereby declare the lollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description or the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful iniprovenients in combined trousers stretchcrs and pressers, and more particularly to that class adapted to secure a pair 01 trousers therebetw con and press the same into proper shape.
'i he object of my invention is to provide a cheap, durable, and cllicient device and one that can be adjusted to receive one or more pair of trousers at one and the same time.
A iurther object is to provide means to secure the parts of my device together and impart pressure thereto. 1
Other objects and advantages will be hercinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings 1 have shown the pre'lcrrod lornrol my invention.
in said drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing my device open and a pair of trousers placed therein ready to be stretched and pressed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view as seen from the opposite direction from that shown in Fig. 1. i ig. 3 is a plan view of my in.proved device closed and showing a pair of trousers therein, and Fig. i is a detail scctioual View through the lower end of the strctcherd'rame and showing one section of the l'raue opened.
Referring to the ligurcs by numerals ol' rcl'- crencc, 1 and 2 represent the l'ranic or body portion of my iuproved stretcher, said soc tions being hinged together at one edge by hinge ircmbcrs 35, one section of said hinge nember bong in the l'orln ol' Llll'tlltlOil bolts 4, upon which take suitable straps 5, which are rigidly secured to the n.cmbcr 2 ol' the l'rauc, said straps being ad usLably hcld upon the bolts 4 by means ol suitable nuts (3.
Springs (L are disposed around the bolts l and between the hinge-joints and straps 5, the object of said springs being to give rigidity to the member 2 and prevent the same from dropping down upon the bolt when the two members closed. Bars 7 are disposed across the outer face of i the member 1 and are rigidly secured thereto, said bars having reduced end sections 8. Similar bars 9 are disposed across the outer face of the member 2, said bars terminating in shanks 10 at their opposite ends, upon which are mounted locking meinbcrs 11, said members having suitable hand engaging grips 12 at one end and provided at their opposite ends with hook-sections 13, said ho0K- sections being so arranged that when the trousers are placed between the inernoers l and 2 and said members are brought together said hook members will take onto the reduced sections 8 of the bars 7 and lock said members together.
in order L0 retain the trousers in place while the same are being stretched, the member l is extended at one end and provided with a clamping-block 14, said block being held in position upon the mcmbcrl by means or bolts 15 said bolts being ol sunicicnt length to permit said block vl-t to be moved a distance from the face of thc' ncmbcr l. The outer ends of the bolts 15 are slotted and have pivoted therein cams in, so that when the trousers have been placed between the member 1 and the block it said block may be directed against the trousers by rotating the cams 16. l -n'cl'crably dispose spiral springs 17 around the bolts 15 and betwccn the mcmbcr l and the block 14, so that when it is desired to remove the trouscrs the cams lb are rotated on their pivots in the bolts and the spring 17 will direct the block H outwardly and remove said block from engagement with said trousers.
ln operation a pair of trousers arc disp :scd upon the inner face of the section l and the L lower ends thereof secured between said 1 mcmbcrl and the block ll, when said trousers are drawn taut across the lace ol' the section 1, alter which the section 2 is disposed are being brought together or over the trousers-and the curved mcmbers l3 du'cctcd into engagement withthc rcduccd ends 8 ol the bars 7, and by a contimuius rotation of the locking mcmbcrs ll around the shanks 10 said sections 1 and 2 will bc clamped securely together and a sullicicnt 1 prcssurc brought to bear upon lhc trousers to press the same and remove all wrinkles l and creases therefrom.
it will be clearly understood that the members 13 are cccentrically disposed with respect to the shanks 10, so that the greater the rotation of the members 11 upon the shanks the tighter the members 1 and 2 will be drawn together.
What I claim is- 1. A combined trousers stretcher and presser comprising frame members, means to adjustably secure said members together at one edge, one oi said members being longer than the other, bars having reduced. ends secured to the elongated member, bars secured to the other member and terminating in suitable shanks, and means pivotally mounted on said shanks adapted to engage the ends oi? the bars on the opposite memher and draw said members together.
2. A combined trousers stretcher and presser comprising frame members hinged together, one of said frame members being longer than the other, means secured to said extended end of the elongatedniember to engage and hold trousers thereon, bars secured to said elongated member, said bars l'iavin'g reduced ends, bars rigidly secured to the opposite member having shanks at their opposite ends, locking members mounted upon said shanks, the eammcd ends oi which are adapted to engage said reduced ends and draw said members together.
o. A combined trousers stretcher and resser eemorism frame members i and l h a eeaeeo hinges secured to the member 1, one leaf of said hinges terminating in a bolt, straps secured to the member 2 and slidably engaging said bolts, means to adjust said straps on said bolts, locking devices secured to the member 2, said devices having hooked ends adapted to engage bars carried by the memher 1 and dispose saidmembers 1 and 2 in close relation to each other, a bar secured to one end o1 the member 1, andmeansto dispose said bar toward or away from the member 1 as desired. I
4. A device of-the class described comprising a pair of frame members, one of Which is longer than the other, a
being in the form of a bolt, straps rigid with inges on one of 1 said i'raime members, one strap of said hlnges the opposite frame member and having STEPHEN S, ZIGLER.
