Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application filed August 15,1906. Serial No. 330.647.
To all whom it nut/ concern.-
Be it known that we, EDWARD L. PERRY, S11, and EDWARD L. PERRY, Jr., citizens of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New J ersey, having invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bellows-Fold Couplings for vestibule-Cars; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has reference to that class of bellows-fold couplings for vestibulecars for which a patent was granted to us the 21st day of February, 1899, No. (319,785, and is designed as an improvement thereon whereby cheapness, strength, and durability are obtained.
The invention consists in a bellows-fold coupling for vestibule-cars constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a portion of a bellows-fold coupling embodying our invention, Fig. 2, a horizontal section thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a series of hollow pockets or sections formed from a continuous strip of cotton duck or like material and coated with a rubber or elastic compound, as shown at B. In the manufacture of this coupling a complete duck coupling is formed in the loom by weaving the material in such a manner as to form the coupling of one piece, thereby dispensing with the gusscts or stays, as in our former patent. The coupling is woven with the hollow pockets or opening A, each pocket or opening joining the one adjacent thereto during the process of weaving, there by dispensing with the gusscts and seams to pull apart, as in our former patent, there being noseam or seams in the complete coupling, as the same is woven in one piece, thereby possessing increased strength and durability, as well as simplicity in construction, and with great wearing qualities. The waterproof coating, such as rubber or other like elastic material, as shown at B, is placed upon the outer surface after the process of weaving, forming a strong and durable bellows-fold coupling especially adapted to vestibule-ears.
Having now fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A seamless bellows-fold coupling, comprising a plurality of hollow sections or pockets constructed from a fabric woven in a continuous piece, said hollow sections or pockets being joined together in the process of weaving, and a waterproof coating upon the exterior surface of said coupling.
In testimony whereof we allix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
