To rtl/ wftom/ if my concern.-
Be it known that l, ROBERT it. BALL, :i citizen ot' the TUnited States, and a resident of ll'estlicld, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful limprovements in Vending-thie'hines, ot which the following is i specificotion.
My improvements relate to what are coni mouly known as slot-machines" or nmchines adapted to he operated by e coin inserted through n slot. They relate particularly to machines of this character adapted to be used for the vending ol' siniill articles.
Vlhe objects of my invention among others are to provide :i simple, strong, und durable structure, the ports ol; which may be cesilv .manufactured und assembled end which in` operution will ect with certainty and preci sion.
The iuven tion consists of the structure und arrangement of ports hereinafter described :nid claimed and illustrated in the acconipii nying drawings.
ln the said drznvings, Figure l is n side view of o. vending-machine embodying in v inyention, the bese of seid nuichine being shbwn in eross-seetion substantially on the line l l of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is e front view of the sznno with the glass donie removed und the buse-casing shown in cross-section. l* ig. 3 is ii plan of the nuichine' with the gloss donie in medial horizontal section. lig. 4 is n vertical section of the lower portion ol the niuehine substantially on the line 4 4 of FigA 2.
The bese-casing' A is circular in forni and has its verticirl sides set in slightly from the outer edge of the. bottom or base. 'l`hehusccover B telescopes with the bese end is secured thereto by ineens ol the hnsp l), which passes through the overlapping portions ol the buse und cover und is engaged on the outside by a padlock E or other suitable device.
The base and cover are provided n ith slots A2 and B2, respectively, to receive the curved upe per portion of the t'iisteninfhr device.
T he principal parts of the machine are supported by the posts or standards G, which are secured to the hase by their feet G', and are connected et their upper ends by the cross-bolt G2.
The inclined trays H, forming the continuous feed-chute, are secured to the uprights by means of smell onges G3, which are inclined et the proper ongles and support the seid trays. The trays nre arranged insigne@ forni end are connected oy the end riiieees il. Each truy is provided with un opening: iig :it its lower end, which is of suitable sire to aib mit the passage of the round or cylindrical certoii 1t. The lower troy ifi terininiites iirectily over the nffis of the deliverj-,'-n licei and has :tu opening; ll" at this point.
The overshotdelivery-wheel consists olv the hub l of polygonal 'toi-rn, rotatably mounted between the uprigjhts G :nid the rediul een riers, each composed ot' u ilunge l', embedded in the hub, the curved lportion l?, :uid the outer lip l. In operation the ceron hills lroni the short tray lil into the pocket tiiined within the carrier until the rote.- l ion ot" the wheel brings it to the point where it will be discliergcd therefrom by gravity. The vertical edges ol the pockets or carriers are secured to thevend disks l", which also act to prevent the cartons from slipping out ol` sind carriers endwse or coming in contact with any ola the other ports ol` the nuichine.
The delivery-chute consists ol' the upper inclined table J and the dependiney portion d", whieh is curved et its lower end :1nd terniinuies et the recess A in the base. Dirertjv opposite -these ports is the openingr i. y. through which the iingcrs may bf` insu-ted to rewivel or extract the curton when ni is dclivered from the wheel.
vln the drawings l have .shown zt suitublc coin-octuated operating device which coniprises n coin-chute C, secondary chute C? und `slot C l'or receiving und guiding` the (foin, u trnp consisting of n pivoted erin ii, vided with n weight L, another trap consist ing ol' the erin M w ith the weight M', which tr-.ips open and close the slots c a', the coin being thrown against the lutter hy n stop N rl"he secondary coin-chute` C2 receive-s the coin intended to oetuttte the mechanism und guides it to the pin P3 on the erin P, pivoted to the stnnderd G above the ringj), which ring is secured to one of the disks l* and has teeth U corresponding with the Pockets of the delivery-wheel. The erin l is parallel with the ring O at its upper part nndhas s, tooth l at its outer end and another, l, diernietricelly opposite.-
The rotation of the delivery Wheel is caused by the Weight ot' the cartons i, and es or carrier directly beneath it end re pro Y IDO soon as a carton is delivered from the lowermost carrier of the Wheel the one at tbe opening H4 will fall into the pocket beneath it, which is brought into proper position to receive the carton by the rotation oi tbe delivery-Wheel. lips 13 perform on iniportant function in this .operation bvholdino the carton immediately at tne opening unti the pocket is in the exact position to receive it. The glass dome F, incasing the upper part of the machine, is securedz to the base by y'means of a lienge F', extending around the flower edge theljeof on the outer side and se- ',cnred to the dirne by the use of cement or other suitable s .distance In this connection l use the ordin ry bell glass or dome ot commerce, which is constructed Without a flange, and applya flange, as `nerein described, lor my purpose, Willich enables me to build rnv no apparatus nt a ver;r much less cost than if l z5 the oase-cover,overftlie flange l* 4o The bool( E veins, end the genuine coins, respective lieve e glass dome molded to order. l use this bell glass -or dome entire, avoid ing liesardous end expensive cutting or. grindinj."
The clip lil `extel'ids from the upper edge of and thus fA prevents the removal of the glass dome.
