UNITED STATES Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907,
Application filed lilarcli 13, 1906 Serial lllo. 305,894.
To It 1077/0711, it m/wjl/ concern/.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM THEDORF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Vincent, Kittson county, State of lxlinnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picks; and my preferred manner of carrying out tlie invention is set forth in tlie following full, clear, and exact description, terminating with a claim particularly specifying the novelty.
Tli'lS invention relates to music, and more especially to the picks which are used in connection with banjos, guitars, and the like and tie object of the same is to preouee a pick with Sllitll be serviceable for til. is purpose, not injurious to the strings, and yet of su 11 construction that it will keep ie player informed by the sense of toucn wiaat is being done.
To tnis end the invention consists of t e pick hereinafter described, and SiYOWll in the drawings, wllerein Figure 1 is a plan view of tlTG blank from WlFiCll this pick is formed. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the finger with the pick in plaee tlaereon. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of sair linger looking in the direction of t e arrow in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an end view of tile linger and pick.
In the drawings tlie letter T d signates lie skeet-metal blank from wlriel t is pick is made, and A are the side arms of t l'e leao. of t is T, which are bent around tlie "linger, as seen in Fig. 2, so as to form a linger-embracing portion or tltimble. Tie aid; of tlie T consists of a narrow strip of metal wliose edges are approximately parallel a. 1
\ Wl'IOSG inner end is integral with said t him ble,
is such tlrat it leads from tlve tlzimble completely around tine end of the finger and nearly or quite to tie lingo-nail. Tire outer extremity or point P of tlte sliank S is bent outward away from the finger, as We in Fig. 2, and is curved laterally or tra versely, as seen in Fig. 41, tize object of curvature being to pr vent tle presentation of any s. arp corners o" The pick to tire string, over in: latter e pick moves transversely in tile act of playing ti'lG instrument, as will be understood.
In tle construction. of ti? is pick the slank S is stamped from sFeet metal and made as narrow as p ssiblc C(msistent wi t ie rigidity required, purpose being to provide a narrow tongue depen ling from tie iinger clamp and carrying t me pick-poin proper, ti at w n tee s'l'ri is picked it will be felt by tire n ger on eitner side of said slzan I consider tf'is an important detail in a construction of my device. Tl e size, s iiape and material of parts are not essential.
Vii" is claimed as iew isii pick for str instruments, ti-e same formed of a sing piece of sfieet metal comprisi g a tinge inbracing portion, a shank projecting to rom and consisting of a liar ow strip or metal with approximately parallel edges and adapted to extend from said ling r bracing portion around t e end of no 1 ger and to embed itself in tile l'les .it..ereof, and a picking-point proper at the outer end of said Sllftilli bent outward tlerefrom and ronndcd transversely, the wiiole for use snbsta i as described.
in testimony w 1 reunto sub scribed my signature 10th day of March, A. D. 1906.
Witnesses tinnisrornnn Tnnnonr,
EYILLIAM G. Deacon.
