BURIAL GASKET. APPLICATION FILED MAY 29,1906.
C/zaaFEagZman,
I l TTOBNEY.
'PATENTED JAN. 29, 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BU RIAL-CASKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 29, 1907.
Application filed May 29,1906. Serial 115. 319.282.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. EAGEL- MAN, a cltizen of the United States, residiw at Geigers Mills, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have mvented new 'and useful Improvements in Burial-Caskets,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lmprovements in burial-caskets and my object is to provide a casket of glass or similar material with handles adapted to securely hold the cover on the casket.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a portion of a casket in per-' s ective, showing -the cover about to be p aced in (position. Fig. 2 is'an outside view of one en of my casket, andFig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line a: a; of Fig. 2.
The numeral 1 designates the body of the casket. This ma be in any desired form, and it is provide along its upper edge with an outwardlyextending flange 2. This flange is formed with'a continuous groove 3.
T e numeral 4 designates the cover. This cover is also formed with a flange 5, corres onding with the. flange 2 on the body.
ong the underside of this flange I form a continuous rib 6, adapted to enter the said groove 3 in the body portion.
Before the parts are placed in position the groove 3 is partly filled with a plastic cement, and the coveris then placed in position with the'rib 6 in the roove 3, the cement a substantial y air-tight joint.
At either side of the lid and body portions I form a numberpreferably twoof lugs 7, those on the cover adapted to meet those on the body, and these lu s are ta ped to permit screws 8 to ass t ough t ose on the body portion an enter those on the cover portion. These screws are formed each with a suitable handle 9. Each screw has a collar 8, which bears upon the lower face of the lug of the body and receives the weight of the casket, thereby relieving the threads of the screws of all such weight.
When the screws are drawn up tight, the lid is drawn securelyinto engagement with the body, and the handles provide means for ca the casket.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim isv A casket of transparent material comprisa body portion, a cover, said body and cover ha interlocking portions, outstanding contacting lugs upon said ,body and cover, screws insertible through the lugs, collars thereon bearing upon the lower faces of the lugs on the body portion and handles exten from the lower ends of the screws and be ow the lugs.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
CHARLES r. EAGELMAN.
