Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1907.
Application filed June 9. 1906. Serial No. 321,051.
T 0 all whuin 7115 may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY J. VAsooN CELLES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooling Apparatus and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cooling apparatus; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and efficient device of this character whereby articles may be lowered in receptacles in a well, thereby keeping the contents of the receptacles cool.
More specifically the invention comprises a series of superimposed receptacles which are provided with loops upon the opposite sides thereof, through which a stirrupshaped strap or yoke is adapted to be passed to hold the receptacles from displacement.
The invention consists, further, in various other details of construction and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view showing the application of my invention and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the receptacles, showing the manner in which they are held in place.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a casing which may be of any suitable shape and size and of sufficient length to receive a series of receptacles. Said casing is adapted to be lowered in a well B and has a cover C, having an eye or ring D secured to its under surface, and also a pin F upon the outer surface of said cover. E designates a member, subthe device may be lowered into the casin stantially U-shaped, having apertures G in the ends thereof, in which the hooked ends of the bail II are fastened. N designates a rope which is fastened to an eye in said bail, and its other end adapted to be fastened to the ring D. O O designate a series of receptaclcs which conform, preferably, to the shape of said casing A, and upon the opposite faces of each receptacle are the straps or loops Q, through which the arms of said yoke are adapted to pass, whereby a series of superimposed receptacles may be held in place one upon top of another.
After the loops upon the various receptacles have been placed over the yoke member 6 and the top of the casing closed, thereby forming a means for keeping articles within the receptacle cool Without the use of a refrigerator.
When it is desired to have access to the receptacles, the yoke may be withdrawn from the casing and one or another of the receptacles removed from the yoke.
What I claim is A cooling apparatus comprising a yoke, a series of superimposed receptacles, each having straps fixed to the ends thereof through which the upright portions of said yoke pass, a cover to each of said receptacles in contact with the inner faces of the upright portions of the yoke, the lower of said receptacles adapted to rest upon the transverse portion of the yoke and held by said yoke centrally underneath the series of receptacles, and a bail formed of a single piece of wire bent to form an eye and having hooked ends adapted to engage apertures in the end of said yoke, whereby the upright portions of the yoke may frictionally engage and hold the various covers on the receptacles, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
HARVEY J. VASCONCELLES.
