CLOTHES-LINE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1907.
Application filed June 8, 1906. Serial No. 320,875-
useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Supports; and I do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specifieation, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has relation to that class of clothes-line supports adapted for at tachment to the windows of dwellings and other like structures and when not required for use capable of being folded against the same; and it consists in providmgasup ort of the above character that will be simp e in construction, easily operated, and effective in its purpose, as will be hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation showing my improved clothes-line support connected to a window, the support beingin an extended position for use, Fig. 2, a front elevation thereof, showing the support in a folded position when not required for use; Fig. 3, a detail view in perspective and on an enlarged scale of the slotted bracket.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a portion of a window-frame, and B and C the upper and lower sashes, respectively. To the cross-bar a of the lower sash is suitably fastened a bracket E, in which is an inclined L-shaped slot 1) to receive the bent end a of a locking-rod F, the opposite end thereof being bent upward and pivotally connected to a pulley-carrying arm G. The arm G is pivotally connected in any suitable n anner to the bracket E, and the free or outer end of said arm terminates in a hook d, to which detachably engages a suitable pulley e, over which passes the clothes-line H.
A suitable hook f is secured to the bracket E, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, so that when the clothes-lines is engaged with the slot in the cross-bar of the sash, as indicated in dotted lines of Fig. l of the drawings, said hook willhook under the lines and retain them in alinement with the slot in the sash, and thus form a guide therefor and admit of the pulley-carrying arm G being folded against the sash, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
A suitable plate 9 is connected to the side rail or cross-bar of the sash C, and to this plate is connected in any desirable manner a brace-rod l, the lower end of said rod being connected to the pulley-carrying arm G to hold said arm in the same plane for all posi tions, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The brace-rod retains the pulley-carrying arm in the same plane in any position. and when said arm is swung out from the window to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings the arm will be locked by the bent end of the locking-rod automatically engaging the portion h of the L-shaped slot, as shown more clearly in Fig. '3 of the drawings.
Any suitable guide and supporting device for the clothes-lines may be substituted for the hook hereinbefore described, and the L- shaped slot is on an incline, so as to allow the pivoted arm to be moved from a closed position to an open position, but not beyond it.
The window-sash may be raised or lowered at will no matter 'what position the pulley-carrying arm may be in, and the plate to which the brace-rod is connected may be attached in any manner and to any part of the sash or in attaching the bracket to the crossbar of the sash, and any such changes as would come within ordinary mechanical skill may be resorted to without departing from the essential features of the invention.
Having now fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A clothes-line support comprising a bracket having an L-shaped slot therein, ablothes- CHARLES A. ENGGREN.
