To a, whom it n'my concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL M. PFAUTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Germantown, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swivel- Trucks for Electrically-Propelled Cars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation. to that class of electrically-propelled cars adapted to be suspended from an elevated-railway structure; and in such connection it relates to a swiveltruck adapted to travel along on said structure and support'the car in a suspended condition.
The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a simple and efficient swiveltruck for elevated-railway structures with suspended cars second, to rovide a swiveltruck with two superposed disks movably connected at their periphery with each other and at their vertical central axis, the lower disk supporting the car and the upper disk supporting the lower disk and car and the driving-wheels and motor; and,
united at their lower ends and with mechanism adapted to bring one or the other of the said trolleys into operative position as reuired.
The nature and scope of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which v Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a car and a portion of the superstructure of an elevated-rail way system, showing in side eleva tion swivel-trucks supporting the car and a double trolley and means for operating the same, embodying features of my present invention. Fig. 4 is a front elevational view thereof, partly sectioned; 5 is a vertical sectional view of the swivel'mechanism-of the truck, the motor, axles, and wheels thereof being removed.
Referring to the drawings,a represents a colunm supporting a, cross-girder a, to which are suitab y secured longitudinal girders b and b To the lower inner flanges b and b of the longitudinal girders b and b are secured rails b and I)", over which the Wheels d and d of the swivel-truck of a car (1 suspended therefrom travels, as will be hereinafter more fully explained. To the cross-' girder a is secured a bracket c carrying a hood 0, within which theelectric trolleywire a is located. The car 61, suspended from the truck f, is provided with rear and front platforms (1 and d and dashboards d and d, and within the same is arranged a metal framework, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The axles d and d of the swiveltruck f are carried by brackets f and f suit ably secured to the under side of a disk f which by means brackets disk f and bolt f 7 are connected with the metal framework f of the carbody d, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. Below the disk f and centered on the kingpin f 4 is arranged a second disk f which by means of the bolts f 7 is rigidly secured to the metal framework f 5 of the car (1 and rests directly upon the roof (1 thereof. Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new,
and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
