` Benrath, near Dssel orf, in the Province of the Rhine, German Empire, have jointly inventedI certain new and useful Improvements in Floating Cranes-and the Like, of which the following is an exact specification.
0ur invention relates to floating cranes and the like capable'of being'rotated and particularly adapted for hoistingheavy loads. It is well known thatfloating' cranes for small loads are constructed by arranging a disk-turning crane on a lpontoon.` In practice it is impossible to en arge such a turning for example', of onehun e tons and upwardand hitherto larger floating cranes have been made in the form of shears orof `similar construction. A rotating floating.-
crane for heavy loads has not yet been built.
The object of thev Apresent invention is to produce a crane for heavy loads which can be easilybuilt. Accordi-ng to one construction, the whole free ontoon surface can be reached `by the craneook, and thepontoon can be 4made assmall as ossiblel by mounting a stationary or movable counterweight somewhat over the edge oi the pontoon.
In'the modI already known cranes the lib is arranged on a turni su stationary support like a mantle. j
The present invention consists in arranging a stationary or ymovable counterbalance surrounding the stationary support like a mantle. By this means thel counterbalance is lalways opposite lto the jib when the latter 1s turned u on the vertical middle axle through the esired angle, whereby ythe highwhole crane system is kept as ow as ossible by the arrangement-ofthe counterba anceat the lower en' of themantle-suppertimmediately over the edge of thelpentoon;` These two points are very imperatartiorioating Qraneabecause the .dimension ofz the pontoon for stationary` like a bellwhich surroun st e is dependent upon the height and the lateral distance of the center tary axle.
One form of construction aecordingto this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which.-
Figures l and 2 represent side elevations of our improved crane in a diagrammatical lhorizontally arranged. The jib f is connected to l'the rotating support c in any known `manner and is adjusted and moved pb? means of a windlassh. On the lower end the bell-mantle cfand projecting laterally therefrom is arranged a casing g, forming a re-` ce tacle for the counterbalance g.
referably the driving mechanismv and gearing or a part of the same are put into the casing, as indicated at h; thus avoiding the necessity of having additional loads, Y
It will be understoodY thatl the details of this construction maybe varied without departin from this invention.l l l lHaving thus'ull-y described the natureo of gravity from the roour invention, we declare that whatwe d'e- States 1s-' Y o c 1. Ina oatin rotating crane, in combina sire to secureby Letters lPatent of thefU'ted tion a movable 11b al turningsupport Vcbeing formed as a be lLmant'le in its lower Ipart ,end carrying said jib 4a receptacle vg ar'- lranged at the'lower-endoisaid bell-mantle, a

2. In a floating crane, in combina-tion a movable jib f, a turning su port c bein formed as a bell-mantlein its lbwer part .carrying said jvib, areceptacle `g 'airangedet roo the lower end. of saidi Bel'l-nintieindl'fingfl In Witness whereof-We have .hereunto set gear mounted in said rege talle for opelr-ating our hands in the presence of two Witnesses. the turningsup ,ort an or eepingt e oenl l ter of gravity o the crane system as near as 5 possible over the pontoon7 a stationarysuport carrying said turning support, a Wind- Withesises:
