Description

' PATENTED JAN. 8, 1907.
0. T. JACKLEY. DISPLAY STAND. APPLICATION FILED JULY 19, 1906.
-m ML UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. JACKLEY, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
' DISPLAY-STAND.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES T. J ACKLEY, a citizen' of the United States of America, and a resident of Wheeling, county of Ohio, and State ofWest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in display-stands, and more particularly to a fruit and vegetable displaystand; and it consists in the particular construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will hereinafter be fully de scribed.
The chief object of the invention is to provide a display-stand for fruits, vegetables,
and the like provided with a water-cooling and spraying system, and, further,'to provide a stand having removable and interchangeable boxes and receptacles for cooling and displaying such articles as are placed therein.
1n describing the invention in detail reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figurel is a front elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is across-section of the same on the line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a similar section on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.
Referring to said drawings, in which like reference-numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the case, having closed ends 1, an inclined open front 2, a vertical face 3 at the base of said front, a vertical closed back 4, and a flat top 5, is shown as resting upon supporting-legs 6. The lower part of the case is adapted for holding, tilted or inclined at a display angle, as shown in Fig. 2, a plurality-of vegetableboxes 7, While the upper part thereof is adapted for in like manner holding vegetableboxes, spray-pans, ice-chests, or the like. An ice-chest, which may be-of any approved construction, is intended to occupy a positionin one of the central upper compartments, as at 8, and a spray-pan 9 occupies the other of said central upper compartments, while in one end of the case is fitted a removable berry-cooler 10. Said ice-chest is preferably made separate from the case, so as to be removable, and is shaped to conform to the shape of the compartment which it is to occupy. The s ray-pan 9 is likewiseshaped to conform to't e shape of the compartment which it is to-occupy, in the case and is Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July. 19, 1906. Serial No. szagss.

sisting of a pipe 11, having a foraminous.
nozzle 12 thereon. Said berry-cooler 10 consists of a metal box, open in front, provided with shelves 13 for holding berry-baskets and the like. A roof-like top 14, sloping in opposite directions, is provided on said cooler, as shown.
A pipe 15, connected with a source of water-supply, passes through the case, said pipe being supportedin a suitable manner, the supports in the present instance being the inclined sup orting-strips 16 in the front of the case. The inclined sprayer hereinbefore mentioned is attached to said pipe 15, as'is also a perforated pipe-sprayer 17, which lies along the comb of the top 14 of the ,berrycooler. The erforations in said sprayer 17 are in the un er side of the latter and eject water in opposite directions over said top 14, from whence it drains down the sides of said cooler and into troughs 18, which lie transversely of the case at opposite sides of said berry-cooler, and thence drains to a trough 19, which lies in the front part of the bottom of the case and is slightly inclined to a drainpipe 20. A similar trough 21, also slightly inclined, but preferably in the opposite direction, lies in the front part of the middle portion of the case and drains the water from the spray-pan and ice-chest to the side of the berry-cooler, from whence it passes to said trough 19.
, A plurality of folding hin ed glass doors 22 are provided for closing t e inclined open face 2 of the case, said doors being adapted for swinging back and standing open over the to of the case, as is shown in Fig. 1. Each 001' is in reality composed of two doors 23 and 24, hinged. together at 25, and the upper door 24 is hinged to the case at 26. Said doors when closed lie upon the supportingstrips 16 and are separated by parting-stri s 27, integral with said supporting-strips. T e.
each of said bars being horizontal and havinga vertical rear lug 30, secured to the back 4 of the case, and an inclined front lug '31, secured to the inner face of the sup ortingstrip 16. oflset 32 is provide in the green vegetablessuch front end of the sup orting-bar 29, in which the trough 21 is firm v held.
Each of the vegetable-boxes 7 in the lower part of the case has secured on its opposite sides near the rear end a plate 33, having a socket therein in which is pivotally held the upper end of a supporting-arm 34, the lower end of which is pivotally mounted in.a suitable base member 35, secured upon the base or bottom of the case. The box 7 is normally held by said supporting-arms 34 in an inclined or display position, as shown in Fig. 2 but when it is desired to remove the contents the front end of the box is raised and the whole box is allowed to swing forward on said arms 34 to the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, in which position the front end of the box is supported on the upper edge of the vertical face 3 .of the case.
As is apparent, the interior arrangement of the case may be altered-that is, the boxes, pans, &c., may be rearranged in any other suitable manner, all of the parts being readily removable-without departing from thegeneral spirit or scope of the invention.
It is further apparent that various alterations maybe made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts without departing from the purview of this invention. Hence I do not desire to limit myself to the recise construction, arrangement, and comination of arts herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what -I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. In a display-stand, a case" having a short vertical front wall, inclined supporting strips, hinged doors normally resting upon said supporting-strips, vegetable-boxes in the bottom of the case, a plate having a socket therein secured on each side of each of said boxes at a suitable point, a supportingarm having its upper end pivoted in said plate, a base member on the bottom of the case, the lower 'end of said supporting-arm being pivoted in said base member, said boxes being held by said supporting-arms at a display angle within the case and ada ted for swinging forward on said arms an for resting upon the upper edge of said vertical front wa l.
