FREDERICK KoEoHEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.-
SPRAYING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Dec. 11, 1906.
Application filed April 19,1906. Serial No. 312,641.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
a citizen of Germany, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful'lmprovements in Spraying Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved spraying apparatus more particularly de signed for steaming the face and for similar purposes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is side elevation of my improved spraying apparatus; Fig. 2, a detail of the steam-valve, and Fig. 3 a detail of the ring supporting the liquid-receptacle.
The spraying apparatus consists of a foraminated cylindrical shell 4, removably se- 1 v l plug 'has a handle 33, by which it may be cured to a base 5 by pin 6 and bayonet-slot 7. The shell 4 contains a lamp 8 and supports a steam-boiler 9, having a bead 10, that rests upon the upper edge of the shell. Within an upper flanged opening of the boiler is fitted a threaded ring 11, into which is screwed a threaded valve-casing 12, having a steam service-port 13 and a diametricallyearranged exhaust-port 14. Within a tapering bore of casing 12 is fitted a conical valvelug 15, having an an ar duct 16, that may e made to register with either of the ports 13 or 14.
The plug 15 has a slight vertical play within casing 12, so that it will be raised by excessive steam-pressure and act as a safety-valve.
Normally the plug is held to its seat by a coiled spring 17, surrounding its lower reduced end and inclosed within a chamber of casing 12. The upper end of the spring bears against a shoulder 18 of the casin while its lower end bears against a nut 19, tted upon the lower threaded end of the plug. By adjusting this nut thetension of spring 17, and consequently the steam-pressure in the boiler, may be regulated. If the pressure exceeds the limit desired, the plug 15 will be sli htly raised against action of spring 17, an the steam will thus escape between-the plug and casing. The port 13 communicates with a steam-pipe 20, having steam-nozzle21. From Be it known that I, FREDERICK KOEOHEL, 1 pipe 20 depends a curved arm 22, the lower free end of which carries a nut 23. This nut engages the threaded stem 24 of a liquid-nozzle 25, to the lower end of which is connected a flexible tube 26, having at its bottom a perforated weight 27. The tube 26 dips into a liquid-receptacle 28, supported upon an open ring 29, the'bent ends 30 of which engage a grooved keeper 31, secured to shell 4.
The nozzle 25 extends at right angles to nozzle 21, and by turning it in one or the other direction it may be raised or lowered, so that the distance between the discharge-orifices of the nozzles is readily adjustable. This adjustment serves to regulate the quantity of liquid lifted and sprayed by the steam-nozzle. The shell 4 as a handle 32, and the turned to direct the steam either to nozzle '21 or to the exhaust-port 14.
What I claim is- 1. A spraying apparatus composed of a shell, a superposed boiler, a valve-casing on the boiler havin a steam-port and/an exhaust, a vertically movable and rotatable spring-valve having a duct that is adapted to register with said port and exhaust, a steamnozzle communicating with the steam-port, and a liquid-nozzle in proximity to the steamnozzle, substantially as specified. I
2. A spraying apparatus provided with a shell, a su erposed boiler, a valve-casingon the boiler aving a steam-port and exhaust, a vertically-movable and rotatable valve having a threaded projection, a nut adjustably engaging said projection, a spring engaging the va'lve-casing and nut, a steamnozzle communicating with the steam-port, and a liquid-nozzle in proximity to said steSam-nozzle, substantially as specified.
