ADDISON Gr. DUNHAM, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
RELEASING DEVICE FOR STALLS.
Specification of Letters fatent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
Application filed December 1,1905- Serial No. 289.903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADDISON G. DUNHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Releasing Devices for Stalls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an automatic releasing device for horse-stalls.
The features of the invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which 4 Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly in section, of my improved releasing device for stalls, showing three stalls. Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on line w m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged planview of one of the locking-bolts. Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on line w w, Fig. 1.
1 2 3 4 represent the walls of the stalls.
5 represents the mangers, having the orifices 6.
7 re resents a U-shaped arm in each stall, slidab y supported by the staples 8, secured in the manger. These arms 7 are connected by a cable or wire 9, which passes through the walls of the stalls, one end of the cable being connected to a releasing-lever 10 outside of the stable, say, and the other end of the cable 9 is attached to a tension-spring 11, which holds the arms normally through the staples 8 and bridging the orifices 6.
12 represents the fastening-chain, having the anchor-clip 13 inside of the manger extending across the inside of the orifice 6, the chain passing from the inside of the manger out through the orifice 6, around the upper end of the arm 7, and back into the manger again.
In operation it is obvious that when the lever 10 is manipulated the arm 7 can be withdrawn from the staples 8 to release the chain 12 and that all the chains will be freed from their attachment to the mangers when the lever 10 is manipulated.
It is also desirable that when the releasinglever 10 is thrown back that it will be nor mally locked in such position in order to hold the arm 7 free from the orifices 6. This is accomplished by the following instrumen talities: 14 represents a U-shaped bracket, between the limbs of which the lever 10 passes. 15 represents lips extended inward, the ends of which form a shoulder, so that when the lever has assed the same they will form an abutment or the lever, holding the same in its open position.
It is also obvious that the halter or chain 12 can be secured to the arm 7 in various manners, in which a release can be effected. by a movement of the arm.
Having described my invention, I claim In combination with a series of mangers each having an orifice, a series of staples, a series of U-shaped arms sliding in said staples, one of each of said arms bridging one of each of said orifices, a series of wires connecting the said series of arms, a spring attached to one of the wires at one end and a lever attached to the wire at the opposite end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I- have hereunto set my hand.
ADDISON G. DUNHAM.
