CORN AND BUNION CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KUNO MEIs, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn and Bunion Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to corn or bunion cutters, and has for its object to provide for a corn-cutter of a simple construction and effective operation.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference-letters denote corresponding parts, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view; Fig. 2, a vertical central section on line 2 2 of Fig. l Fig. 3, a boitom view'of the cutter, and Fig. 4 is a detai My cutter consists of a base portion a and a longitudinally-slidable upper or blade portion I). The base portion a may be made of two separate pieces, as shown, or of an integral piece, and is provided at its lower surface with a downwardly-extending triggershaped projection or handle 0. The forward extremity d of the base is bent upward and somewhat concaved and is provided with a circular or rather somewhat elliptical opening 6. At its rear the same has a groove f, which serves as a guide for the upper or blade portion. For this purpose the blade portion has its rear end 9 bent perpendicularly downward and terminates with a reduced nose It, that is adapted to engage with the groove f of the base. Within the space between the blade 0 and the base a a spring 'i is arranged, one end of which is attached to the blade and the other to the base, said spring having the tension to draw the blade backward into its end position.
At an intermediate part the blade has a bend 7' in shape of a reversed V, which bend serves as a grip. Forward of the said bend there is a longitudinal slot k, which is adapted to engage a threaded bolt or pin Z, secured to the base portion. The slot 7c and the slot f will allow the blade I) of being moved forward and backward. The front sharpened extremity m of the blade is slightly bent downward, so as to rest on the base portion on top of the hole f, and is also slightly hollowed or concaved, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
By grasping the cutter with one hand and having the index-finger rest against the lower trigger and the thumb against the upper one the cutter is placed over the part to be cut off, so that the corn or bunion will project upward through the opening e, and when the blade portion 1) is pressed forward against the tension of the spring by the thumb the same in sliding with its sharp end on the base over the opening e will cut off the corn.
By the adjustment of the threaded bolt Z the sharp end of the blade can be pressed more or less onto the base, whereby it will be possible at one stroke to cutoff a larger or smaller portion of the corn or bunion.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A corn and bunion cutter, comprising a base and a spring-actuated blade portion slidable thereon, each of said portions having a handle, the forward end of the base being bent upward and concaved and having an opening, and the forward end of the blade being bent downward into contact with the base, and being concaved, means for connecting both portions, and means permitting the sharp end of the blade of being adjusted into closer or less close contact with the base, substantially as set forth.
