COMBINED CHECK AND TAG.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1906.
Application filed December 1 1905. Serial No. 289,846.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH P. ANGELL, of Pine Bluff, in the county of Jefferson and in the State of-Arkansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Combined Check and Tag; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are views of the opposite sides of a combined check and tag embodying my invention.
The object of my invention is the provision of a combined check and tag for watch repairers and others which will require but little time for the entry thereon of full and accurate data for the identification of the object or article to be tagged and useful as an advertising medium, as well as possessing other desirable qualities, and to this end my invention consists in the check and tag substantially as hereinafter specified and claimed.
To illustrate my invention I have selected a check and tag for watches, and it consists of a card A, having on one side data for designating the case of the watch, which consists of the initials of the words descriptive of the various kinds of cases-such, for example, G for gold, F for filled, S for silver, &c., and the abbreviation Htg. for Hunting, and a blank preceded by the abbreviation No. for the number of the case, and it has a list of the names of various watches, together with a blank preceded by the word and abbreviation Movement N01 for the number of the movement, and a blank for the date of issuance of the tag and check. Partially cut out from the card is a circular piece or disk B, it being partially cut, so that it may readily be removed, and said disk bears a number corresponding with a numb er on the card and attached to the disk is a cord or wire I), the card within the disk being perforated for the passage of the ends of the wire, so that the wire may thereby be readily retained in place, and the wire being provided so that when the disk is removed from the card it may be attached to the watch as a tag.
It will be seen that it requires but a moments time to enter upon the check the fullest description of the watch. If, for example, the watch to be repaired is a gold-plated open-face Elgin, sixteen size, seven-jewel movement, all the initials for describing the and P, and the abbreviation Htg. is crossed out, and then the number of the case is inserted in the blank. Across the word Elgin the numeral 16 is written, and the numeral 7 and the initial J and the number of the movement and the date of the issue of the check are inserted. Should the case not be an open-face, the abbreviation Htg. is not stricken out. The check having been thus filled out, the numbered disk or tag removed therefrom is applied to the watch, and the customer is given the check, which when the watch is called for must be presented, and the customer may retain the tag as containing a full description of his watch, which may be useful to him for its identification should it be lost or there be other occasion for the use of a description of it. When his watch has been returned to him and the customer is to retain the check, the number on the check is preferably mutilated, as by punching out portions of it, to
show that the watch has been returned to him should he after having obtained his watch again present the check.
On the opposite side of the check the card of the jeweler or watch repairer may beprinted and some quotation of literary value printed, which will make it worth while for that reason for the customer to retain the check or tag and serve as a reminder of the dealer from whom he got it, and the portion of the check containing the quotation or other matter may, if desired, be readily separable from the remainder, as by the provision of a line of perforations across the card, so that if it should be desirable to detach the same it may be done. Itis desirable to make the check of a size which will prevent its being lost, and I utilize its large size for the advertising and other printed matter placed thereon. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1 A card bearing data referring to variou articles of a kind, and bearing duplicate num bers, one of the numbers being upon a'portion of the card partially severed from within the body of the card, for use as a tag for the article for whose description the data is used.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
JOSEPH P. ANGELL.
