To all wham, it may concern:

Be it known that I, JosEF ULLMANN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at 58 Schottenfeldgasse VI,Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sealing Devices for Parcelsand the Like, of which the following is a specification.

Th1s invention relates to improvements in seals adapted foruse in connectionwith packages bound with string, cord,- or the like, and

wherein the package is sealed by securing the ends of the string or cord in such manner as to effectually prevent tampering or unauthorized opening of the package Without eflacing or destroying the seal.

To this end the invention consists in the provision of a seal composed of a strip of metal adapted to be bent upon itself around the cord ends in a manner to grasp or impinge the latter and securely hold them in place, there being also provided on the foldable ends suitable interlocking parts adapted to be engaged and interlocked in a manner to effect a permanent coupling of said foldable ends about the cord.

With these and-other objects in view the invention consists in the construction hereinafter shown and claime In the drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a seal embodying the main features of my invention, the'same being shown in an open osition. First describing the form shown in Figs. 1

to 3 and 6, the same consists of a strip of metal or other suitable material, preferably rectangular, and having its outer ends 1 and 1 recessed, forming a marginal reinforcingflange 1". A transverse rib 4 is formed near the center of the strip 1, so that when said ends are brought to ether, as shown in Fig. 6, to seal the cord, t e bend will be regular. The ends 1 and 1 are then brought together on a line of the rib 4, as shown in Fig. 6, until the reinforcingflanges 1 contact, the flange 7 registering with the aperture 6 and projecting therethrough. The flange 7 is spread or upset on the wall of the aperture 6, thereby firmly locking the ends together, which operation may be effected by any suitable means.

In the form shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 7 there is no provision for drawing the cords through holes 2, as in the first form, the cords lying transversely of the seal. Prongs 3 are disposed throughout the width of the seal to.

What I claim is 1. A seal comprising a strip of material adapted to be folded upon itself and around a cord or the like, said strip ha a transverse rib and registering recesses or receiving the cord, and cord-impinging prongs formed in the walls of said recesses, said strip also having re istering parts adapted to be interlocked to ock the folded ends together.

2. A seal comprising a stri of-materlal adapted to be folded upon itse f and around a cord or the like, said strip having a trans verse rib, and registering recesses to receive the cord, said recesses having cord-impinging prongs, and parts formed in said strip and adapted to be interlocked to lock the ends together.
