T all whom it may concern; 7 Be it known that I, GASTON A. BRONDER,
a citizen of the United States of America, and
a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, have inve'nto certain new and useful Improvements in Electrically-Driven Fluid-Motors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means with which fluid-driven motors, workiniin closed cycles,
are operated and controlled y means 0 electric currents. Its organization comprises the combination of a compressor, a fluiddriven motor working in a closed cycle, and
an electric motor b 'virtu'eof which the fluid I shown to comprise two. cylinders 25, from each of which extends a frame 26, so porting a cross-head 27, secured to the end vo the pis ton-rod 28. A connecting-rod 29 is journaled from the cross-head and connects with the crank'30 of the shaft 31 of the compressors.
A priming-pump 21 is attached to the aircompressor to supply air that is lost through leakage. The said priming-pump extends from the cylinder-head 32, and its piston-rod 33 is secured to the cross-head 34, from which latter is journaled the eccentric-rod 35, having the eccentric 36, driven by the shaft 31, An inlet opening is shown at 60, and the discharge-piping 61 connects with the piping 5.
An air-engine 7 is connected by piping 9 to the high-pressure compartment 2, and its exhaust-opening is connected by pipin' 10 with the low-pressure compartment 3. he compartments 2 and 3 of the tanhare connected y piping 22, and to the latter is fitted a reducing ressure-va ve 23. A'safety-valve 24 is attac red to the compartment 2.
An electric motor 14 is geared with the compressor 4 by means of s ur-gear 37 on the shaft 31, meshing with te pinion 38, mounted on the armature-shaft 39 of the said motor. Two feed-wires15, with suitable wir- Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed February 12, 1903- Serialllo. 148184;-

Connected with the compartment 2 of the tank there is provided an electric pressure gage 17, mounted on a base-plate 41.. It com rises a curved hollow tube 18, that com- Inun'icates with the pressure on the inside of the corn artment by means of the piping'42; The 'sai tube will elongate or contract with variations of pressure in said compartment, and will thereby break an electric circuit when the pressure in the compartment 7 reaches a predetermined point and in like manner wi I close the circuit when the ressure falls too low by virtue of the need e 43 making contact with the contact-point 44.. The opening and closing of the circult is communicated to a pilot-switch 19 and from thence to a circuit-breaker 20, although the latter ma be omitted.
The pi ot-switch 19 is; normally maiutained in the position shown inFig; 1, a solenj-t oid 45 being mounted just above the same, l
tlfie plunger 46 of which bears on tire arms'4 7 0 t wire 51, that connects with one of the arms'of the pilot-switch 19. From the switch 50 also runs the wire 52 to the circuit-breaker .20, and the wire 53 extends fromi'the circuit- "8o e said pilot switch when the curreritflisbroken, thereby breakin'gthe circuit 'at'ltho breaker to one of the feeders lfii fj 'lhejsolen oid 45 is connected by the wife '54,.to the switch 50, andthe .wire 59 conn ect's the con tact-point 44 of the electricressur'e gage17 with the solenoid. The need 6 43is connected. to the wire 51 by the wire 58. From the com tactoints 48 there extend thewires 55 and 56, t at lead to theelectric motor14.
{To operate the invention, an electric curreht is taken from any suitable source and led to the electric appurtenances that control the motor, which latter drives th'ecompressor 4,
that feeds the high-pressure compartment 2 I (if the pressure-tank 1, and the'motor'oontinues to run until the air-pressurein comartment 2 reaches a predetermined point, when the electricressure age breaks the electric circuitan, stops t e motor. The
pressure usually maintained in the said. com-,--
pertinent 2 is "about one hundred andifift 5 pounds per 5 uare inch, and the ail is expan y pounds, at which pressure.
I pressure compartment 3 of the tank. The
an is thus operated in n closed cycle considersbly ebove etmespheric pressure. Should the pressure in the com artment 2 rise above at certain point, it will e transferred to the compartment 3 by Way of the piping 22 and reduoi ngwelve 23, while at the same time the safety-valve 24 is fixed to the compartment 2- to prevent explosion should the other ap purtenences controlling the pressures betcome inoperative.
Having described my invention, I clsim-- 1. The combination of an electric source of power, an electric motor, a compressor driven by the motor and operating in it closed cycle, a pressure-tank connected with the compressor, a high-pressure and a low-pressure compartment in the said tank, a pres sure-reducing valve between the said com.- pertments, snengine' with its inlet connected with the higl1-pressure compartment, and its exhaust. connected with the low-pressure compartment, connections between the inlet of the compressor and the low-pressure compertinent, connectionsbetween the discharge-outlet of the compressor andtthe high-pressure compartment, on electric-pres sure gagev connected with the high-pressure compartment of the tank, and an electric switch controlled by the said gage to autorfi'etically close orbreak the electric circuit.
f1," "The combination of on electric source of ppwer, an electric motor, a compressor driven by the motor, a pressure-tank, e h1ghpressure and a low-pressure compartment in compartment, en electric-pressure gege connected with the high-pressure compartment, a solenoid, e pilot-switch and electric connec tion's between the motor, solenoid. andpilotswijch.
