ATTACHMENT FOR STOVEPIPES.
APPLICATION FILED JAN.8. 19
PATENTED SEPT. 18, 1906.
DANIEL H. HARRINGTON, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
ATTACHMENT FOR SITOVEPIPES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18, 1906.
Application filed January 8, 1906. Serial No. 295,096
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL H. HARRING- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful ImprovementsinAttachments for Stovepipes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachments for stovepipes.
The object of the invention is to provide means whereby a stovepipe may be connected to the chimney hole or flue without the necessity of cutting off or adding to the pipe.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a section or joint of stovepipe, showing the application of the invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes a stovepipe joint or section, which is here shown as being closed at its upper end by a cap 2. In one side of the joint 1 is formed a rectangular opening 3, over which is arranged an open box or guide-frame 4, said frame being bolted or otherwise tightly secured to the pipe joint around the edges of the opening formed/therein. In the inner sides of and adjacent to the outer edges of the sides of the box or frame 2 are formed vertically-disposed guide grooves or channels 5, and on the edges of the sides of the frame are formed enlargements 6, having threaded apertures in which are adapted to be screwed set-screws 7.
Slidably mounted in the grooves 5 over the front or outer side of the frame is a panel or plate 8, said plate being of considerably greater length than the box and has formed on its upper edge laterally-projecting lugs 9, which prevent the same from sliding out of the grooves or guide-channels of the frame. In the plate 8 is formed a centrally-disposed aperture 10, around which is secured an annular flange or thimble 12, which is adapted to be engaged with a chimney-hole or to have connected thereto a pipe leading to said adjustable connection between the stovepipe and chimney-hole.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
In an attachment for stovepipes, the combination with a pipe having an opening therein, of a rectangular box projecting laterally therefrom, said box having its open inner face engaged with and attached to the outer face of the stovepipe and covering the opening therein, said box also having at its open outer face adjacent to its top and bottom, inwardly-extending enlargements formed with threaded apertures, the inner faces of the side walls of said box being formed with vertically-extending guide-grooves open at the top and bottom, a flat plate arranged to slide in said guide-grooves and beneath said enlargements, said plate having at its top outwardly-projecting integral stops to engage the top of the box and limit the downward sliding movement of said plate, a thimble arranged in said plate to connect with a chimney hole or flue and set-screws in the threaded openings in said enlargements to impinge against said plate and hold it in an adjusted position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL H. HARRINGTON.
