To all whom) it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL STREITZIG, director, residing at Leipsic, Germany, a subject of the German Emperor, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Traction-Rope Grips for Aerial Tramways, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of my invention.
The present invention relates to grips for traction-r0 es of double-rope tramways actuated by t e weight of the cars.
The invention consists of two double-arm levers in the vertical plane of the carryingropes which are fulcrumed by a pin at an acute angle to the plane of the levers and which carry the weight of the car. The levers carry at the ends of their opposite arms the truck-wheels, while the adjacent arms of the levers carry each one grip-j aw parallel to the vertical plane of the carrying-ropes. The car is supported by a bolt at a right angle to the vertical plane of the carrying-ropes and below the fulcrum of the two levers, which bolt carries at its ends two small Wheels for supporting the weight of the car and for opening the grip-jaws in the known manner. This arrangement simplifies the operating of the grip-jaws, and it also allows of a large purchase of the levers, and thereby greater pressure of the jaws increased by wedge action.

A denotes the carrying-rope or the track for the trucks. The truck is composed of the two levers F and G, carrying the sheaves D and fulcrumed by the inclined pin E. The levers F and G are provided with the gripjaws H and J for the traction-rope B. The load is supported by the hanger M and the pin K. This pin K is 'journaled in lever F and carries the detaching-wheels L, which run onto the detaching-rails O and serve to support the weight of the car.
The weight of the car supported by the hanger M bears upon the levers F and G, and these are lowered around-the pins E as fulcrums in closing the grip on the tractionrope. The jaws H and J, which are carried by the levers F and G and placed opposite each other, perform a relative closing movement at an acute angle to the plane of the carrying-rope. As the levers F and G are hinged together by pin E, the closing of the jaws H and J continues until the traction-rope B cannot be compressed farther.
In order to open the grip, the weight of the car is supported by thedetaching-wheels L and the detaching-rails C placed at an inclination in the known manner, whereby the bolt K is raised. The detaching-rails C are parallel with the track A, and therefore guide the truck in the same manner. The truck-wheel pin, which serves as a fulcrum for lever F, is also parallel to pin K, and thus the lever F, with the gripping-jaw H, fulcrums in a plane parallel to the vertical lane of the carrying-ropes. On the other hand, lever G, with the grip-j aw J, fulcrums on pin E, while wheel D at the other end of lever G stays on the track A, whereby the distance of jaw J from jaw H is increased. The tractionrope B may in this position of the jaws be either placed between the jaws or taken out of the same.
What I claim is- In a ropeway car-truck with rope-grip actuated by the weight of the car, two levers F and G provided with jaws H and J, one lever provided with the hanger-pin K, and the levers joined by a fulcrum E at an acute angle to the vertical plane of the carrying-rope.
