Description
PATENTED SEPT. 18. 1906.* P. S. GRiTNPELD.
GAS IGNITING AND EXTINGUISHING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 22, 1905" FRITZ SIEGFRIED GRIINFELD, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
GAS IGNITING AND EXTINGUISHING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18,1906.
Application filed April 22. 1905. Serial No. 256.971.
T0 (ti/Z whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, FRITZ SIEGFRIED GRIIN- FELD, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at the city of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Igniting and Extinguishing Devices and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to cocks for gas igniting and extinguishing devices in which cooks the plug should, on the one hand, have the least practicable frictional resistance, as the operative power must be small, and, on the other hand, be readily withdrawable without having to dismount the whole of the device.
My invention consists in mounting the plug of the cock so that at one end it is engaged by an ad 'ustable screw or other equivalent means.
My invention consists in a construction in which the plug of the cock is carried at one end in an adjusting-screw or other equivalent means and at the other end in a spring seating.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a side view and an end view of the cock of the invention. Fig. 3 is a side view, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section, of a modification.
a is the gas-pipe, b the cock-barrel, and 0 its plug, having a spindle d, the end of which is engaged by the end of an adjusting-screw e.
40 f is a flat or plate spring in which the opposite end of the plug is carried and which acts against any outward spring of the same. This spring is screwed to the frame g. In this way the plug 0 is freely held between the adjusting-screw c and the flat spring f with the taper surfaces of the plug and barrel in contact-and making a tight closure.
To withdraw the plug, the spring f is drawn back, so that the path of the plug is left free.
In the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the plug 0 is not provided with a special spindle, but is so formed that it is engaged by its end on the adj Listing-screw. The spring f is replaced by a flat seating, which is acted on by a spring.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. In gas igniting and extinguishing de- Vices the combination of the cock-plug with an adjusting-screw which engages the end of the plug, and spring means acting against the pithler end of the plug, for the purpose speci- 2. In gas igniting and extinguishing devices the combination of the cock-plug with an adjusting-screw which engages the end of the plug and a spring-controlled flap acting against the other end of the plug for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRITZ SIEGFRIED GRUNFELD.
