CABINET FOR TREATING DISEASES BY LIGHIT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 1906.
Application filed January 17. 1906. Serial No, 296,511.
To aZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Reno, in the county of Canadian, Territory of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Cabinet for Treating Diseases by Light; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to .which it appertains to make and use the shaped cabinet, as shown clearly in the accompanying drawings. The various sides of this cabinet are hinged together, as shown, and provided upon the inner faces thereof with mirrors, whereby when the cabinet is closed and in readiness to be used the inside will appear substantially as one mirror, only that the mirrors upon the faces of the different sections of the cabinet will reflect at different angles. The top is also provided upon its under surface with mirrors, and. is provided with four or more arclamps, which in combination with the, mirrors produce violet light.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which is portable and which also can be knocked down and packed for shipment in a small compass.
The, invention comprises further objects and combinations of elements, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and Shown in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereofwill be particularly pointed out by the appended claims,
To obtain afull and correct understanding I ment upon the upper edges of the faces of the of the details of censtr-uction and combination of features, elements, and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter-setf rth description, in conne p i h the ac= company-111g d i gs, ere n j Figure 1 is a perspective viewof the cabinet in readiness for use. Fig. 2 1s a longitudinal vertical section through the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the faces forming the octagon-shaped cabinet, showing said faces hinged together in sequence. Fig. 4 1s a detail view of the bottom, show ng the h nged door. to allpw for. the entrance. of the patient to be treated; and. Fig. 5 is a cross-sectlonal view on line 5 5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a detall i has been placed in the same. v the lower edge, of'the door 1811s an additional view of rod 24, showing the manner in which it is connected with the cabinet.
Making renewed reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate the corresponding parts in the several illustrations by figures, 1 designates the base, which is octagon-shaped and provided with rectangular recesses 2, conforming to the shape of the bottom, as shown in Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawings. Said bottom is also provided 'with legs 3 to allow the cabinet to stand the desired distance from the floor. Said recesses 2 are adapted to receive a rib 4, which projects and is also integral with the end of each face of the octagon-shaped cabinet when said faces are placed in proper position, as shown clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The faces forming the cabinet are hinged together in sequence by hinges 5 in such a manner as to allow said faces to be folded in a small compass when said cabinet is disassembled.
Provided upon the inner face of each of the faces forming the cabinet are mirrors 6, which mirrors are beveled, as shown. at 7, so as to engage the inclined side walls 8 of a re- 3 cess 9, which extends the full length of the faces forming the octagon. The top 10 comprises a number of faces 11, conforming to the same number of faces of the octagon, said faces of the top converging to an apex, as shown. Said faces 11 are hinged together by hinges 12 in order to allow said top to be folded. The faces 11 of the top 10 are also provided with mirrors 13, which are beveled in a similar manner to the mirrors 6 and adapted to engage the inclined side walls 14 1 of a recess 15, which recess 15 converges to an apex, as shown. The outer edges of the faces of the top are provided with rabbets or a recess 16, so as to be firmly held from displacecabinet.
The top upon the inner side is provided with a plurality of arc-lamps 17, which, in combi-- nation with the mirrors, reflect the light at, difierent angles, produce a violet light which is designed to be used for treating various; diseases. One of the faces forming the sides of the cabinet adapted to be used as a door 18 and provided with a lock 19 in order to securely lock the cabinet after the patient: Adjacent to door, or, in other words, a trap-door 20,
I formed by a sectionof thebase of thecabinet,
which is hinged, as at 21. Said trap-door cooperates with the door 18 and is also provided with a lock 22 to securely hold the door 20 together and to allow the person to walk thereover.
From the foregoing it will be plainly observed that by the provision of a polygonshaped cabinet having mirrors up on the inner faces of the top and the inner faces of the sides various diseases may be treated by a violet light, which is produced by the combination of arc-lamps and the angled reflections of the light from the mirrors and when manufactured in accordance with the accompanying drawings may be sold comparatively cheap. I
To prevent the spreading at the top of the flat section, a suitable rod 24 is provided, which is pivoted, as at 25, and spanning the opening of the door 18. This rod is provided with a rectangular enlargement which is adapted to be seated within a recess 27 when it is desired to hold the up er part of the sections together. To secure y hold the top and bottom against the upper and lower edges of the fiat section, suitable tie-rods 28 are provided, whichare pivoted, as at 29 in recesses of the base of the cabinet, as shown in the drawings. The upper parts of the rods 28 Having thus fully described the invention;
what is claimed as new and useful by the protection of Letters Patent is 1. A polygon-shaped cabinet for treating various diseases by light formed of fiat sections hinged together insequence, mirrors carried by said sections, and mirrors also carried by the inner face of the top in combination with arc-lamps.
2. A cabinet for treating diseases by light, comprising a casing, a top and bottom, mirrors having beveled sides, recesses formed upon the inner circumference of the casing, and having inclined walls to receive said mirrors in combination with suitable lamps, and vertically-disposed rods connecting said tops and bottoms together.
In testimony whereof I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. FULLER.
