Unirnn srarns THOMAS BRENNAN, JR., OF MINNlEAPOLlS, MNNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO i gnirinNT orrion.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Paten-ted Aug. 7, 1906.Y
To @ZZ whom, it noa/y 'coz/werm- Be it known that TnoMAs BRENNAN-Jr.,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and Iusefnl Improvements in Scrapers- -for Drill-Disks", and I do hereby ldeclare the lfollowing -to be fa full, clear, and exact 1descr-iption of the invention, such as will Ienable others skilled in the art to which ift appertains'to make and use the same.
spring-pressed arms fhavin -tiouflars hereinafter noted,
In the yaccompany-ing drawings, whichl view in side elevation, showing 'one `of improved scrapers 'applied to the boot and disk of a drill-disk, some parts Ebeing findicated in diagram only. Figs. 2 and 3 arey details in plan, showing different sides of the scraper. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line m4 x4 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line m5 x5 of Fig. 2.
1 indicates the boot, and 2 one of the disks, of a drill-disk, said parts being ,shown in diagram only.
3 indicates a scraper-equipped lever which is intermediately pivoted to a lug 4 on the seed-boot and the upper and forward end of which is yieldingly pressed outward in the usual or any suitable way, as by a coiled Where the scrapers are arranged in pairs, the spring 3a may work through an opening la in the front flange of the boot l and may be ressed between the forward ends of two o the levers 3. When but one scraper is employed or when the scrapers are independently actuated, said spring 3a may act against a suitable part of the boot.
The lever 3, near its lower and rearwardlyprojecting end, is provided with a lock-flange 5, which is shown as segmental and is flattened on its up er edge, as shown at 5a, for a purpose whic will presently appear.
6 indicates a scraper-blade holder the ends of which are turned over or grooved at 7 to form seats that are adapted to receive the edges of a Hat longitudinally-.tapered scraperblade '8. At i-ts central Yor intermediate portion 'thefsorapefr-holder 6 -is formed with a depressed part that laffords yan open seat l9 for fthe free .and rounded end of Ithe lever 3.
rllhis .seat `portion 9 lis bifurcated or notched' at 9a to fiormtaseat that is 'adaptedfto receive ithe dock-flange 4of said lever, as best shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The scraper-blade 8 is formed with -a locknotch 18a., that is :also
This invention relates to scrapers for #driildisks, tand particularly to those emplloying 'at their -ends swiveled scraper-blades, a -has 'for its ob-- ject to improve the same in the several paradapted to receive the llo'ck-.flange when the Ipartsare asseinbled.
rThe #construction j-ust described is such that when the blade 8 is turned finto line with the iiattened portion `ef the surface 5a -of the llock-liiange -5 all parts vof' `the :said lock-Hangs f5 will ibe carried out of fthe notch I8a -of said blade, thus permitting the ibla'de to be removed from the holder by endwise lmoverment in the direction in wihioh it iiares. As shown in Fig. f5 by dotted lines, the said lblade Scan be moved 'into line with the said iia'tftened surface 5a Aionlly when iit is turned into -a horizon'itai position. dinga'll other posi- *tions the said blade wild be interlocked with the holder 6 by the said lock-flange 5. Otherwise stated, in all operative positions of the blade 8 the said blade is interlocked with the blade-holder, so that it cannot be accidentally rattled or forced from said holder. It is lever therefore acts to lock the scraper-blade in the holder 6, and the scraper-blade in turn locks the holder to said lever in all positions except when the said blade is turned into a horizontal position, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 5. With the flange described it is also possible to very quickly and easily reverse the scraper-blade 8 and holder simply by turning them pivotally on the said lever and without removing any of the parts from said lever. This feature is desirable because a scraper-blade when worn to a bevel on one side will not scrape a disk clean, but when IOO reversed occasionally may be used until it is Worn too short for good Work.
mThe scraper described may be very cheaply made and the parts thereof may be very quickly assembled or taken apart.
I claim as my inventionl. A scraper for drill-disks or the like, comprising a lever, a blade-holder swiveled on said lever, and a blade seated in said holder, said blade and lever having inter locking engagement When said blade is in normal or operative position, substantially as described.
v 2. A scraper or drill-disks and the like, comprising a lever having a lock-flange in the vicinity of one end, a blade-holder mounted for a swiveled movement on the anged end of said lever, and a scraper-blade detachably seated in said holder and normally interlocked With said holder, by the..
4. A scraper for drill-disks and the like, comprising a lever, a blade-holder sWiveledon said lever, and a scraper-blade seated in said holder and holding the latter interlocked With but capable ofsWiveled movement on said lever, said holder being removable from said lever When said scrap er-blade is removed therefrom, substantially as described.
5. A scra er comprising a lever 3 having a segmental ock-lange 5 flattened at.V 5, a blade-holder 6 having blade-seats at its ends and having at its intermediate portion an o en seat 9 with a slot 9a, and a scraper-bla e 8 itting in the seats of said holder and having a notch 8a alining with said slot 9a, and Which lock-flange 5LL Works in said notch 8a and said yslot 9l and holds said blade interlocked With said holder except When said blade is turned into alinement With the flattened portion 5a of said lock-flange, substantially as described.
6. The combination With a disk drill, of a spring-pressed lever pivotally connected to the boot thereof, a` blade-holder swiveled on said lever, and a scraper-blade seated in said holder, said blade havin@ interlocking engage- .ment With said lever Wzlien in normal or operative position, substantially as described. 7. The combination With a disk drill, of a spring-pressed lever pivotally connected to the boot thereof, said lever having a segmental or incom lete lock-flange at its free end, a blade-ho der mounted for sWiveled movements on the anged end of said lever, and a scraper-blade detachably seated in said holder and normally interlocked to said holder and lever by the lock-flange of the latter, substantially as described.
In Vtestimony whereof I aHiX my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses. v
