The invention aims to render shadowless certain gas-burners of the Bunsen type now 111 general use, whereln an incandescent mantle is mounted on the burner to receive the heat of the burner-flame.
To the end in view the improvement consists in making the basket of the burner from glass, porcelain, or similar translucent material, and, further, involves certain peculiarities in special structure whereby the basket is best adapted to be set up in conjunction with the other parts constituting the complete burner without impairing its quality as a translucent medium for the incandescent flame.
The nature of the improvement will appear in detail from the following description and be more clearly pointed out by claims at its conclusion.
Figure 1 is a view in longitudinal section with the supporting-basket shown flared at its upper rim to seat the chimney and the gallery internally. Fig. 2 is a view in crosssection on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, the basket being shown without flare and the gallery being modified accordingly.
In the form shown by Fig. 1 it is seen that the upright pipe 0, is equipped with air inlets or ports 7c, as usual, and at its upper end carries the main burner-tube a, over the to of which hangs the incandescent mantle g in familiar fashion. Basket 6, made ordinarily from glass or similar translucent material, is formed in general cup-like shape and at its base is slightly bulged or inset. The basket rides loosely on ledge 10 at pipe a and by reason of its inset base serves to shield the air-ports of such pipe against dust or gusts of wind. The upper outer rim of said basket 6 is flared somewhat to afford loose seat for the gallery f and lamp-chimney g, each of which can be readily removed and the basket be taken from the burner-pipe for separate shipment, as may be often desired.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings basket e is shown without flare at its rim, but otherwise is essentially the same. Absence of flare in the basket renders necessary a minor change in the gallery f proper to afford stable support for chimney g; but the relations of the parts are not materially affected, while the translucent basket being loosely set to place remains capable of easy separation from the associated parts, if desired.
Obviously the details of structure can be varied in keeping with the mechanics skill without departure from the essentials of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In incandescent gas-burners, the combination with the gas-supplypipe having airinlets therein, of the main burner-tube mounted on said pipe, the removable chimney-gallery extended from said tube and the cup-like basket separately and loosely carried at its base on the su ply-pipe, and at its upper, outer rim loose y supporting said chimney-gallery, substantially as described.
2. In incandescent gas-burners, the combination with the gas-supply pipe having airinlets therein, of the main burnertube mounted on said pipe, the chimney-gallery extended from said tube and the translucent, cup-like basket separately carried at its base on the supply-pipe, and at its upper, outer rim supporting said chimney-gallery, substantially as described.
3. In incandescent gas-burners, the combination with the gas-supply pipe having airinlets therein, of the main burner-tube mounted on said pipe, the chimney-gallery extended from said tube and the cup-like basket having inset base at its mount on the supply-pipe to guard the air-port's and at its upper, outer rim supporting said gallery, substantially as described.
4:. In incandescent gas-burners, the combination with the gas-supply pipe having airinlets therein, of the main burnertube mounted on said pipe, the chimney-gallery extended from said tube and the cup-like, translucent basket having inset base at its mount on the supply-pipe to guard the airports and at its upper, outer rim supporting said gallery, substantially as described.
