Description

No. 827,573. PATENTED JULY 31, 199% H. E. sEEELEY. CLAMP AND SUPPORT FOR TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE GABLES.
APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 7,1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOWARD E. SHEELEY, OF MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA.
CLAMP AND SUPPORT FOR TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE CABLES- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD E. SHEELEY, residing at Michigan City, county of Laporte, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clamp and Support for Tele raph and Telephone Cables, as set forth in t 1e following specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a clamp and support for use more especially in clamping and supporting telephone and telegraph cables; but it may be used equally as well for other purposes.
The object of the invention is to provide a device which will securely attach a cable to a telephone or telegraph pole and securely support it in such a manner that it will not be injured or detached therefrom.
It also has for its object to provide a device which is simple, inexpensive in construction, very durable, and easy to apply.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved clamp and support as it appears when in use applied to a telephone-pole; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the clamp and holder detached from the pole; Fig. 3, a section on the line 00 as of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4, a section on line y y of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale.
In the drawings, in which like numerals of reference denote like parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the clamp and support, which comprises two parts or sections 2 and 3, each provided with a semicircular' groove 4, said grooves being beveled outwardly at each end, as at 6, for the purpose of allowing the cable to move without cutting or injuring the edges of the grooves.
The section 3 has square recesses or countersinks 7 cut into its rear face near each end, and 8 represents screw-bolts which securely hold the two sections together and clamp the cable in the grooves.
The sections 2 and 3 are each provided with a hole 8 through its center portion, which register with one another.
9 is a screw-bolt which is passed through the holes 8 and the pole 10 and is provided with a nut 11. The sections 2 and 3 are each provided with beveled upper edges, as shown at 12 and 13, respectively, and the mating Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June '1; 1905; Serial No. 264.106.
Patented July 31, 1906'.
surfaces of the two sections are made the same'length, so that when assembled the top surface inclines away from its support, so as to shed water and prevent decay of the pole or other wooden support to which the device may be attached.
In use the cable is inserted between the two sections and in the semicircular grooves and clamped therein by means of the screw bolts 8. Then the clamp-support is attached to the pole by means of the screw-bolt 9.
I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the specific details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement and the adaption of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variations and modifications as properly fall within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.
What I claim is 1. A cable clamp and support comprising sections having semicircular grooves, and at the center of said sections means for securing said sections to a pole or other support, the upper surface of said sections being beveled downwardly from said pole or other support, substantially as shown and described.
2. A cable clamp and support comprising two sections each provided with a groove having its ends beveled outward, and means for securing said sections together and to a pole or other support, the upper surface of said sections being beveled downwardly from said pole or other support, substantially as shown and described.
3. A cable clamp and support comprising two sections each provided with a groove having its ends beveled outwardly, and with a center hole therein, and a bolt designed to pass throu h said hole and secure said section to a poIe or other support, the upper surface of said sections bein beveled downwardly from said pole or ot er support, substantially as shown and described.
4. A cable clamp and support comprising two sections each having a semicircular groove in its inner face beveled outwardly at downwardl from said pole or other support,
its opposite ends, screw-bolts near each end substantial y as shown and described. 10 of said sections for securing them together In witness whereof I have hereunto set my and clamping a cable between them, a hole hand in presenceof two subscribing witnesses in the center of each casing, and a screw-bolt HOWVARD E. SHEELEY. designed to pass through said hole and secure Witnesses:
said section to a pole or other support, the LE ROY T. ROMER,
upper surface of said sections being beveled CLARENCE WEAVER.
