Description

I Wihmaaeo Bio-821,220. PATENTED JULY 31, 1906.
' H. DONNELLY.
SPOOL HOLDER AND THREAD CUTTER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNEV, 1906.
rm: NORRIS Fs rsns cm, wxsmmmm, 0. t.
HUGH DONNELLY, or LISBON, oHIo. SPOOL-HOLDER AND THREAD-CUTTER.
' To dZZ whom; it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH DoNNELLY, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Lisbon, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool -Holders and Thread-Cutters, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention consists of a simple device particularly designed for use by tailors,
' seamstresses, or the housewife when engaged in sewing and adapted to be attached to the person for supporting a'sp'ool or thread and for cutting the thread quickly and readily.
In its preferred adaptation the invention consists of a spool-supporting member from which project short arms, one of said arms carrying a knife or blade as a cutter, the
other being provided with-a guide member which cooperates with the thread to hold the same.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for efiecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and aecompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention, a spool of thread in operative position thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device alone.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in both views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
' Specifically describing the exact structure of the device illustrated in the drawings, which is preferably made of wire bent into proper form, the numeral 1 designates a spool-holding member made by bending a length of wire upon'itself intermediate its ends, the bent portions of the wire being Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June '7, 1905. Serial No. 264483.
Patented July 31, 1906.
brought together and twisted about each other, as shown at 2, and extended at their lower extremities to form lateral arms 3 and 4. The arm 4: is bent upwardly to form a clip or eye 7, constituting a guide member for the thread as it is pulled from the spool 5, whereas the arm 3 has its outer end projected upwardly and sharpened to form a blade or knife 6. The construction of the device is very cheap and serviceable, and the spool when dis osed upon the member 1 is firmly held in p ace, though adapted for rotation as the thread is drawn off of the same. The upper end portion of the member 1 has the wires thereof spaced apart slightly to form an opening 8 to admit of attachment of a tape orsupporting-cord 9. j
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A spool-holder and thread-cutter comprising a length of wire bent upon itself between its ends to form a spool-holding member composed of spaced spring parts, the bent portions of the wire being brought together near of said arms being bent upwardly to form a clip or eye, the other of'said arms being bent upwardly and sharpened to form a blade, the
upper end of the s ool-holding member hav,
ing the portions 0 the Wire adjacent thereto spaced to form an opening for attachment of a supporting tape or cord.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HUGH DONNELLY.
