The pin-wheel causes .the tripping or unlatching of the shovel, as follows: The bail is connected to the rear of the shovel by a toggle composed t'wo frames 31' and 32. Of these, frame 31 is pivoted at its lower end on Ineansof the pivot 34, to the lower end of the frame 32 and this frame is pivoted at its upper end-upon the pivot 35, supported in'two side pieces 36, the upper ends of which are stayed on the pivot 19, and the lower ends are fixedly secured to the cross-piece 37, which is preferably provided to connect the two sides of the bailabove the back. Vifhenrthe shovelis drawn forward :by i the rope 13, that .movement does not. cause the tripping of the shovel; because the sheavelrame 20 isitherehy swung to a positionz-in-which the pins 28 do not. act upon the hook.
I claim 1. The combination with the shovel of an excavator, of a lifting-rope, a latching device for controlling the dumping ofthelload, and mechanism operated by thedifting rope and sezgiee acting to operate said latchingdevicc by tho slackening or paying out of the rope.
The combination with the shovel of an excavator, of a latching device controlling the dumping of the shovel, means for releasing-said device, and a swinging frame cztrlfving said releasing mains and positioned by the lifting-rope The combination with the shovel of an excavator, of a latching device, controlling the dumping of the shovel, a rotating releasing-Wheel at one end of a swinging frame, a rope-sheave at the othcn end of said frame, said frame and a lifting-rope passing around said sheave and swinging said frame.

The combination with the shovel and its latching device controlling the dumping, of the lifting-rope, the sheave operated by the rope, the swinging'framc carrying sn id sheave, the releasing-wlicel in said frame, the sprocket-Wheels andtheir (mnnecting-chain and a clutch connection between one of the sprocket-Wheels and said releasingm'heel.
5. The combination \vitlrthe shovel and its latching device controlling the dumping, of thelifting-rope, the rocking frame mounted on the hail of the shovel, ll-1e sheave in .d frame around which thc'rope passes, a

6. The excavntor-shovel in combination with the rope l3 and the connection between said rope andithe shovel, said connection being adapted when said rope is drawing-the shovel to raise the rear end of the shovel.
7. The excavator-shovel in with a toggle for holdingit against tipping while gathering its load and while moving to the place of discharge, a-lateh or hook attached to the toggle, and means for; releasing the latch.
