To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Boner M. W. HANSON, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Hart-lord, in the county of Hartford and State of Con necticut, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Chuck-Actuating Moehan ism, of which the following iss specification.
This invention relates to chuck-operating mechanism, and has for its object the previ- Sion of compact devices for causing the chuck to hold the stock.
A further object of the invention is the provision of pneumatic devices for operating the chuck, as will be hereinafter explained.

Partitions 1? 18 are fitted in place against shoulders on the inner wall of the cylinder, so that they may receive the thrust of the motive fluid without being displaced, and they are secured against rotation with relation to the c linder by screws 17 18.
All the pistons. are keyed to shaft 14 and are secured against longitudinal movement on said shaft by the shoulder 19 and nut 20. Each piston consists of a. web portion a and an extended hub b, the hubs essing through the partitions and end of t e e hnder, as shown in Fig. 1, and the hub o piston'lfi abutting against the shoulder 19 aforesaid.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination, with a chuck, and its sup ort, of a series of pistons for actuatim oi a tubular (buck-spindle;

The combination, with a main spindle, ola tubular chuclcspindle; a hollow shaft connected with said chuck-spindle; a com- 1iartineniwylinder surrounding the hollow shaft; and connected to the main spindle; a series oi pistons rigid with the hollow shaft, and mounted in the compartments of the cylinder; means for so plying motive fluid to the hollow shaft: andhneans whereby motive lluid from the hollow shaft may be supplied. to one or more of said compartments.
