DEVICE FOR GENERATING WAVES IN BATHS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 17, 1906.
Application filed March 22, 1906- fierial No. 307,478.
The present invention consists of a device for generating waves in baths; and the object is to provide a simple and effective device which may readily be applied to existing baths and by means of which the waves may be generated either by hand by the bather or by means of a small motor or the like.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is had to the ac companying drawings, in which similar letters ofreference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a built in bath; Fig. 2, a similar section through an ordinary bath, showing the wavegenerating device; Fig. 3, a similar section showing a modification of the device; Fig. 4, a part-vertical longitudinal section showing a further modification; Fig. 5, a cross-section showing the form of wave-generating flap or body, and Fig. 6 a part-vertical section showing yet another modification of the flap or wing.
In Fig. 1 the wave-generating flap or wing a, which maybe full or, as shown in Fig. 5 ,recessed at b, is pivoted at its lower end at 0/ to the bottom of the bath and may be swung to and fro by means of a connecting rod or line or in any other suitable manner to produce the waves.
In Fig. 2 a flap or wing a, having a recess b, is pivoted at the upper part of the bath at one end of the same and provided with a weight e, which tends to hold the said flap in one of its end positions. A rod 0 serves to rock the flap out of its end position, to which it will be returned by the said weight a.
In Fig. 3 the flap is pivoted to the bottom of the bath at a and swungby means of a rod 0.
In Fig. 4 the flap is horizontally guided on guide-bars f f and returned to its initial position by means of a spring d and may be pulled forward bymeans of a rod or cord 0.
Fig. 6 shows the flap a withrecessb mounted on swinging bars 6 e,pivoted at e e to the walls of the bath. This flap may also be operated by means of a rod, as indicated.
In all cases instead of a rod and springs, the flaps may be operated by means of a small motor, as will be readily understood. When the flap is recessed,"it leaves room for the feet of the bather.
The-arrangement of the flap and method of operating the same might be varied in many ways, as will be readily understood, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination with a bath-tub, of a flap arranged therein, said flap cut away to form a recess in its lower portion, and means for moving said flap in a general horizontal rectilinear direction against the body of water confined in the tub.
2. A device for generating waves in connection with baths, consisting of a flap having pivoted arms thereon, said arms having their ends pivoted to the walls of the bath and means for rocking the said flap to and fro in the bath.
3. A device for generating waves in connection with baths consisting of a flap having a recess, said flap being pivotally mounted within the bath and means for rocking it to and fro within the bath.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HEINRICH HOEGLAUER.
