LIQUID-COOLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1'7, 1906.
Application filed May 19,1905. Serial No. 261,274.
To @ZZ whom, t may con/cern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK D. H. KLUHsMEIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in of New York, have invented a new and Improved Liquid-Cooler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in devices for cooling beer drawn from a faucet having direct connection with a keg, the object being to provide a device of this character that will be of simple construction and will keep the beer at a proper temperature, and, further, to so arrange the device as to supply ice-water.
I will describe a liquid-cooler embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims. A
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, which the figure is a sectional elevation of a liquid-cooler embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, l designates a faucet designed to be connected directly to a keg 2, and in this faucet is a valve 3 for controlling the` inlet of liquid from the keg to the faucet and a valve I for controlling the discharge of liquid. These valves are seated with their ports at right angles to each other, so that when one is closed the other will be open, and as a means for simultaneously operating the valves the inger-pieces'thereof are connected by a rod 5.
Supported on the faucet and formed integral therewith is an ice-holder 6, having a cover 7 and also provided at the lower portion with an outlet-tube 8 for ice-water and controlled by a valve 9. Within the faucet the outlet-tube 8 has an enlarged portion 10, which permits of a considerable area of cooling-surface for the water in said enlarged portion. Surrounding the ice-holder is a casin or shell 1 1, forming the outer wall ofa liquidreceiving'chamber 12, the inner wall being formed by the shell or casing 6. This liquidchamber 12 communicates with the interior of the faucet, and at its upper portion it is provided with an air-inlet 13, at the inner side of which is an inwardly-opening flapvalve 14.
The ice-holder is provided with an overflow and vent tube 15-that is, this pipe permits the county and State ing from the interior of the the entrance of air, so that ice-water may freely flow through the outlet-tube 8 when the valve 9 is open. It will also permit the overflow of water should the ice be wholly melted.
A flexible pipe 16 communicates with the interior of the ice-holder and is designed to lead into the upper portion of the keg 2, containing beer, and thus cold air will be supplied to the interior of the keg.
The operation of the device is quite obvious-that is, beer from the keg will flow into the chamber 12 and be thoroughly cooled by the ice in the ice-holder. Upon turning the valve 4 to discharge beer the valve 3 will be closed, thus preventing the passage of beer from' the keg to the receiving-chamber.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A liquid-cooler comprising a faucet, an ice-holder supported on the faucet and having a discharge-tube extended through the same, the said discharge-tube having an enlarged portion within the faucet, a valve in the discharge-tube, a casing surrounding the ice-holder and forming the outer wall of a liquid-receiving chamber communicating with the bore of the faucet, valves in the faucet having their ports at right angles to each other, and means for simultaneously operating the valves.
2. A liquid-cooler comprising a faucet adapted to be connected with a receptacle containing liquid to discharge contents thereof, an ice-holder supported thereon and having a valve-controlled outlet, a tube leadice-holder and adapted to communicate with said receptacle, a casing surrounding the ice-holder and forming the outer wall of a liquid-receiver communicating with the bore of the faucet, a valve in the faucet for controlling the outlet, a valve-controlled air-inlet in the upper portion of the casing and a combined vent and overflow tube communicating with the interior of the ice-holder.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK D. H. KLUIISMEIER.
