Description
PATENTED JULY 10, 1906.
J. SODBRBERG.
POLE GUARD. APPLIOATION FILED SEPT. 11, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEF SODERBERG, OF IRON MOUNTAIN, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO ISAAC UNGER, OF IRON MOUNTAIN, MICHIGAN.
POLE-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 11, 1905. Serial No. 277.935.
Patented July 10,1906.
1'0 ML whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnr SODERBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iron Mountain, in the county of Dickinson and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pole-Guards, of which the following is a specification.
Hy present invention constitutes an improvement over the pole-guard of my Patent No. 784,902, granted March 14, 1905.
Hy primary object is to provide a simpli- 'fied construction possessing all the advantages of the patented construction in addition to the advantages incidental to the simplification of the construction.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a broken perspective view of avehicle-pole and neck-yoke equipped with my improvement Fig. 2, a broken side elevational View with the neck-yoke removed, and Fig. 3 a plan view of the same.
' In the preferred construction, A represents a pole or shaft, B a neck-yoke, and O my improved pole-guard. The guard comprises a owed rod 0, provided at its extremities with eyes joined by eyebolts c to the end portions of the neck-yoke, and a guide member 0 applied to the end portion of the pole and through which the rod is free to slide as the neck-yoke swings with relation to the pole. The member 0 comprises a yoke 0 having the extremities of its arms joined by a pivotbolt 0 to the pole which the yoke embraces, and a forwardly-projecting guide portion 0 which rests normally on the tip iron 0" of the pole and is in the form of a snap-hook. The extremity c of the hook is turned upwardly and points backwardly, and there is afforded a guide-channel 0 which is closed at its rear side by the downturned front portion of a spring 0, secured to the upper surface of the body of the member 0 It Will now be clear that the bowed rod 0 works freely in the guide-channel 0 when the device is in use and that when the team is to be taken from the vehicle or when for any reason the neckyoke is to be detached from the pole the rod may be readily disconnected from its guide by depressing the spring 0 Changes in form and in minor details of construction are contemplated. Hence no undue limitation should be understood from the foregoing detailed description.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a pole and neckyoke, of a forwardly-bowed guard member connected with the neck-yoke, and a guide member connected with the pole havin a guide-channel for said guard member wit a spring retaining the guard member in said channel, for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a pole and neckyoke, of a forwardly-bowed guard member connected with the neck-yoke, and a hookequipped guide member pivoted on the pole and with which the guard member directly engages, for the purpose set forth.
3; The combination with a pole and neckyoke, of a forwardly-bowed guard member connected with the neck-yoke, a member connected with the pole equipped with a hook having an u turned rearwardly-pointed extremity, an a spring cooperatin with said hook, substantially as and for t e purpose set forth.
I JOSEF SODERBERG.
In presence of- R. T. MILLER, ISAAC UNGER.
