ADAM COLLIGNON, .OF CLOSTER, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, C.
O. COLLIGNON, AND NICHOLAS COLLIGNONQOF THE SAME PLACE. f
Letters Patent No. 82,493, dated September 29, 1868..
IMPROVED FOLDING CHAIR.
TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, ADAM COLLIGNON, of Closter, in the county of Bergen, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Chairs; and I do declare that the following is a. full, olea-r, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being hadl to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speci'cation.
This invention relates to chairs which are made to fold up for convenience in transportation and storage; and it consists in thcconstruction, arrangement, and combination of parts as hereinafter described. I
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the chair.
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation through the line a: :e of fig. 1.
ASimilar letters of reference indicate like parts. I
A represents the back stands, the upper portions of which support and form the bacle ofthe chair, while the lower portions extend to the oor and foi-inthe back legs.
B is the seat. The seat is hinged to-the stands A by ear-hinges or metallic plates, which are secured to and project up from the seat,` and are pivoted to the stands A, as seen at C.
A D represents the front legs. These legs are hinged to the under side of the seat, as seen at e, from whence they extend in an inclined position to the floor, forniing the front-legs of the chair, as seen yin the drawing.
F represents braces, which a're attached to both the front and back legs by pivot-joints, as seen atvg and t.
The upper ends of the br'aces F extend up and support the front portion of the seat, as Seen at t'. There may be shallow' mortiscs in the sent, to admit the ends lof the braces to prevent slipping or displacement if desired; but it is not deemed very essential.
VThe front and rear legs andthe back ofthe chair are connected by rounds and slats in the'usual manner.
The parts ofthe chair being connected together and combined as represented, the chair can be folded up into n. very small space, which renders it very convenient for packing away cr for transportation.
Having thus described my invention, I claim las new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl The parts A, B, D, and F, constructed, arranged, and combined substantially as shown and described, for the purposes set forth.
rEhe above specification of my invention signed by me, this 22d day of July, 1868.
ADAM COLLIGNON.
