Description

J. L. DUNNOUK. COMBINATION STOPPER AND LIQUID DROPPER.
APPLICATION IILED P33. 9. 1906.
6 a (a (a l w MW. f fvdk 2 PATENTED JUNE 26, 1906.
JOHN LANGRALL DUNNOCK,
OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COMBINATION STOPPEH AND LIQUID-DRQPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, 1906.
Application filed February 9, 1906. Serial No- 300,226.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN LANGRALL DUN- NOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Stopperand Liquid- Dropper, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in a combination stopper and dropper for medicine-bottles and the like; and the object of my invention is to combine a stopper and dropper in such a manner that it will serve both purposes in an effective and satisfactory manner, and-do so with but very little additional cost other than that usually incurred by the use of an ordinary cork stopper. At the same time a means is provided whereby the contents of a bottle provided with a stopper made as hereinafter described may be accurately measured as desired when being emptied.
With the foregoing object in view my invention consists in certain new and novel features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of my lnvention.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the stopper as applied to a bottle.
A represents a bottle, and B the stopper, made of any suitable material.
1 is a hole horizontally out through the stopper near its lower end portion. 2 is a similar hole cut out of the end portion of the stopper, extending up and into the stop er a sufiicient distance to connect with the horizontal hole 1 and form an opening in conjunction therewith.
The stopper B is made conical shape and of any suitable elastic material, so that when the stopper is partially withdrawn from the bottleneck it will ex and sufficiently to prevent the leakage of the contents while being withdrawn except as provided through the outlets.
The stopper B in use as a stopper and when performing that one function alone is inserted into the neck of the bottle A in the same manner as is ordinarily done when inserting a stopper in a bottle. It is, however,
inserted far enough into the neck so that the hole 1 is wholly Within the neck and closed by the walls of the bottle-neck. When desired to withdraw a measured quantity of the contents from the bottle, the cork is slightly withdrawn to allow the hole 1 to extend beyond the b0ttle-neck a sufficient distance to cause an opening. The bottle being then slightly tilted at a suflicient angle the contents will ass through the hole 2 into the hole 1 and drop therefrom in measured quantities as may be desired. The opposite openin of the hole 1 in use acts as an air or vent ho e, causing the contents to drop accurately and regularly. The emptying capacity can be regulated by withdrawing the regulate the flow as desired. When not in use, the stopper may be inserted down within the bottle-neck beyond the hole 1, the glass walls of the bottle-neck closing about said hole, thereby sealing the contents.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and effective means has been rovided whereby a bottle may be scale or corked, and when desired the contents therein contained may be easily measured when being poured from the bottle, the stopper adapted and suited for the combined purposes, as hereinabove explained.
Slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not desire to limit myself to the exact construction as herein set forth but Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a stopper and a droper, comprising an elastic conical stopper,
ollow at its lower end portion and provided with outlets near the lower end portion through the side walls thereof and connecting with the hollow end portion, substantially as described and for the purpose as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN LANGRALL DUNNOCK.
