UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS BORSUM, OF PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Eatented June 19, 1906.
Application filed October 5, 1905. Serial No. 2811418.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS BORSUM, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Plainfield, county of Union, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Backs for Photographic Cameras, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises a special construction whereby the plate or film holding camera-back may be set so that the plateholding slides may be operated from the top, bottom, or either side of the camera.
In the'accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the back of the camera; Fig. 2, an elevation of the inner or the reversible back, and Fig. 3 an edge view of the reversible back with one corner slightly broken away.
a is the exposure-opening of the camera, the rear end of which is square and has appropriately placed in its four corners four leaded projecting posts a. The reversible back is composed of a back piece 0, two side strips 1), and is formed with a plate-holder or pack-receiving chamber having the usual springs e. The reversible back may be of the same dimensions as the rear end of the camera and has extending entirely around its sides a projecting flange f, that overlaps the sides of the end of the camera, thereby eX- eluding light. 9 is the exposure-opening, around which the inner or rear face of the reversible back is formed by a square of sheet metal h, having the exposure-opening g. In the four corners thereof are four apertures i, which in any position of the reversible back register or coincide with the four headed posts a, projecting from the rear of the camera-box. Adjacent two opposite sides of the reversible back, beneath the face-plate h and moving in seats formed in the side strips 1), are slides 1, through slots 7c in which pass limitingscrews 7c, that serve to prevent complete withdrawal of the slides. The inner end of each slide is slotted or notched, as at j to straddle front face of the shank of the headed post a, and near the other end of the slide it is provided with a slot 7' enlarged at one end to permit the passage of the head of a post a and constricted at the other end to embrace the shank and prevent withdrawal of the reversible back. at m are recesses formed in the side of the reversible back below the outer ends of the two slides j, which latter are formed with downturned ends to permit engagement therewith with the finger of the operator. at is a struck-up rib to form in the under face of the plate h an elongated recess with which the usual projecting rib on the side of the usual plate-holder engages.
I claim as my invention 1. A square reversible camera-back having four symmetrically-(lisposed apertures in its rear face, one adjacent each corner, and adapted to receive headed posts correspondingly located upon the rear of a camera-box, and slotted slides fitted in the back adjacent opposite edges thereof and adapted to lock or release the headed posts whereby the back may be set in desired position upon the cam eraboX.
2. A square reversible camera-back, having a flange projecting from its rear face and adapted to fit over the correspondinglyshaped rear of a camera-box and also having four symmetrically-disposed apertures in its rear face, one adjacent each corner, adapted to receive correspondingly placed headed posts projecting from the rear of the cameraboX, and slotted slides adjacent opposite edges of the back adapted to lock or release the headed posts, whereby the reversible back may be placed in desired position on the rear of the camera-box.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
LOUIS BORSUM.
