PHOTO-PLATE HOLDER.

In all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN BARNETT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sensitized Plate-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My improvement relates to sensitized plateholders used in photographic apparatus, and particularly to very thin sensitized plates.

Such plates have heretofore been made of celluloid or similar material, and my improvement is especially applicable to the employment of plates made of such material.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is I 5 a plan or top view of a plate-holder embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is an end view.

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.

In carrying out my improvement I employ a sheet of card-board, pasteboard, or similar material A, which board is substantially rigid. Upon the board A, I secure at the sides guides B. These guides are made of metal and are 2 5 secured to the board Aby rivets or otherwise.

They comprise portions a, extending beneath the board and by which the whole is secured to the board, portions a extending upwardly at the edges of the board, and portions a ex- 0 tending over the board. The portions 0. are of such extent that a slight space will be left between them and the board.

0 designates a sheet of thin flexible sensitized material, which may be of celluloid or 3 5 analogous material. At one end of the board A is secured a retaining device D, which is similar in formation to the guides B and is similarly secured to the board A.

At the end of the device opposite the portion D is a movable securing device E. (Shown more clearly in Fig. 2.) This securing device consists of a piece of metal, as shown in this example of my improvement, which is bent into a form similar to that of the guides B and the retaining device D. It is, however, movable in the direction of the length of the piece A. The means I have shown for securing this movement consists in providing the device E with slots c,which slots extend in the direction of the length of the board A. Through these slots extend pins or screws 0, which, however, do not bind the device E to the board A,but admit of the free movement of the former to and fro along said board.

It will be readily perceived, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3, that the bent portion of the sensitized material C is liable to curl up and therefore to cause considerable difliculty in inserting the same beneath the edge of the securing device E. This difficultyis avoided and the proper securing of the sensitized material O is attained by making the device E movable in the manner described, for by moving the same downwardly to its farthest extent and then passing the sensitized material A downwardly by any suitable means, the securing device E may be readily moved over the adjacent end of the sensitized material 0.

In a holder for flexible sensitized material for photographic apparatus, the combination, with a fiat sheet of rigid material A, consti tuting a back, of metallic guides B, secured upon the side edges of said back and overlapping the same, a metallic retaining device D, secured to one end of said back and also overlapping the same, and a movable metallic securing device 011 the other end of said back,

said securin g device having a loose connection with the said back, substantially as specified.
