Description

PATENTED JUNE 19,1906. MoDUFFIE BRADFORD.
\ SYRUP PITGHER APPLICATION FILED NOV. 6, 1905.
Be it known that L-McDurrin BRADFORD,
PATE T QFFIQE-T -sY'nuPi-erreuE a,
To all; whom may concern: 7
*a citizen oftheUnited States, residingat Nocona, in o the. county of Montague. and
State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Syrup j This invention relates to improvements in attachments to syrup-pitchers, and has for its object to provide a slmply constructed and automatically-operatingdevice whereby all tendency of the syrup to drip over the edge of the rim orpourin'g-spout is obviated, and to arrange the device so that it can be readilyremoved for cleaning or for other puroses.
With these and otherobjects in *view,
which'will appear-as the nature oftheinven:
, tion is better understood, the invention con' sists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
' In the accompanying drawings, forming a p "part of this specification, and inwhich-corree sponding'parts are denoted'by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred forml'of the embodiment of theinvention ca- 'pable of carrying the same into practicalopration. g u Figurejlisa perspective viewofi the im prove'd device with the lid open. I The improved device ma be readily ad apt-.
4 ed to any of the various and closure 'portionsof syrup-pitchers by orms of the neck making slight and immaterial changes in some of the parts; but for the purpose of illus tration the device is shown applied to an'approved neck structure in which the band portion 10' for encircling the throat of the pitcher, the outwardly-curving rim 11, the inwardly-extending flange 12, the lid or closure 13, and the spring-hinge 14, connecting the lid to the rim, are ofthe usual form.
Extending from thefiange 12 at opposite sides are perforated ears 15, and disposed be-,
tween these ears is a lip member 16, of resilient sheet metal and provided with oppositely-extendin pintles 17, engaging the ears 15 and upon w 10h the lip swings. The lip membercorresponds in shape to the pouringlips usually emplo ed upon syrup-pitchers, and when in one 0 its positions or when the Specification Letters Patent.
Pitcher, of which the following is a specification.
the ordinary manner, as represented in Fig.
Rigidly attached to the lip member 16 and, extending rearwardly'of the same is a.
bail .18, having spaced collars 19 centrally The pintles 17' and the bail 18 are in one piece of wire, the pintles bedisposed thereon.

i lid1 3 is open the lip will bear upon the flange n 12 and serve the purpose of a pouring-spout in 'ing formed by bending the ends of the wire laterally in =op osite. directions, extending them through t e ends of the lip member 16, as shown in Fig. 3. terior of the lid 13 is a loop .or eye 20, and de- ;tachably' engaging this eye by a hook21at one end is a rod 22 the other end of the rod having an eye23, encircling the bail. 18be- -tweenthe'ears,19.. p
' The rod'21 isso formed as to lengththat' when the lid 13 is in open position, asin Fig. 5 1, the bail will be drawn upwardly to seat the liprneinber 16 upon the flange 12 in position to. serve as a pouring-spout, as in Fig. .'1,'- and Extending'l'rom the in- 7 then whenthe lid is'closed the rod will depress the bail and rock the .lip uponitspintles 17 and elevate thei forward edgejof the lip from thefiange', as in Fig: 1,"to permit the syrup whichmaywhave'lodged between the and thus avoid overflowwhen the lid is again raisedfor the next pouring action.

e, The'lip 16 andbail'lSbeing of resilientv material, and thehook 21 being of theopen form," the lip-bail. and rod may be easily e: 3 I
tached by simply compressing thelip and its bail until the pintles 17 are freefrom the ears 15 and then unhooking the rod fromthe loopeye 20. By this means the. whole attach ments "may be quickly removed when required for cleansing or when'the pitcher is to be cleansed or for other purposes. 1
itcher a neck member havears a bail connected to said lip, and an arm movably engaging said bail at one end and with an open hook at the other end for detachably engaging the eye Within said lid.
2. In a syrup-pitcher, a neck member hav- IIO ing an inwardly-extending flange a lid hinged to said neck and provided with an eye-loop, spaced ears transversely apertured and eX- tending from said flange, a resilient lip disposed between said ears and bearing upon said flange, a resilient bail having outturned ends extending through said lip and forming pintles for passing through said ears, and an arm movably engaging said bail at one end 10 and terminating in a hook at the other end for detachable engagement with loop-eye of said lid.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
