.NE'CK-YOKE.
Application filed November 3,1905. Serial N01 285,753.
' Be it known that I, THoMAs J. 'WooDRoW,
'a citizen of the United States, residing at Fountain Park, inthe county of Champaign and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes, of
which the following is a specification, refer- .ence being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to anlmprovement in neck-yokes, and more particularly to the pole-support or hanger of the neck-yoke and the object of the invention is the provision of a hanger of this character by means of which the pole and neck-yoke may be locked together when in use, but may be readily disconnected when desired.
Other objects of the inventionwill be ap parent from the detailed description hereinafter when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof,
wherein a preferable embodiment of my invention is shown and wherein like numerals of reference refer to similar parts in the drawlngs.
In the drawings, Figure 1 1s a front elevation of a neck-yoke provided with my improved hanger, and F1 2 is a vertical sectlon crescent-shaped flange b ofthe pole B is de-:
signed to fit when the pole is secured in position within the hanger. The upper eX- tremities of the arms of the U-shaped hanger A are provided with the enlarged ears-a, in which Is rigidly secured the cross-bar o The inner edge of one of the arms of the U-shaped hanger A is provided adjacent its upper end with an outwardly-extending lip of, which affords an entrance to the recess a. C designates aclip which is rigidly secured in any suitable manner to the lntermediate portion of a neck-yoke D and which is provided with a downwardly-extending portion which loosely embraces the cross-bar a intermediate the arm of the U-shaped hanger A. The
under side of the portion of the clip 0, which embraces the cross-bar a, is made somewhat thinner than the side portlons thereof, as is shown in Fig. 2, for a purpose to be herein- I Specification of Letters Platent.

after more particularly set forth. Thedistance between the lower edge of the portion of the clip 0 which embraces the cross-{barof the U-shaped han er and the lower portion of said hanger is s 'ghtly less than the combined height of the pole B and thecre'scentshaped flange'b secured thereon.
To secure'the' neck-yoke in position upon the pole, the U-sha ed hanger A is slipped upon the pole with the neck-yoke 1D depending therefrom and with the slde which is provided with the lip a facing the crescent-shaped flange b on the pole B. The neck-yoke is then turned so that the clip 0 secured thereto extends substantially at right angles'to the U-shaped hanger, and the hanger is pressed rearwardly along the pole untilthe flange b secured thereon contacts with the thin portion of the part of the clip 0 which 75. embraces the cross-bar a With the parts in this position the U-shaped hanger A is turned about the pole until the neck-yoke is brought to the upper side thereof. During the turning of the hanger A upon the ole the lip a thereof will engage the flange on the pole B and guide the same into the inwardlyextending recess a in the hanger. Accidental disengagement of the pole from the hanger is prevented by the fact that the side of the downwardly-extending portion of the clip 0 which embraces the cross-bar of the hanger is made thick enough to project beyond the lip a of the hanger when the parts are in their normal position. To disengage, the neck-yoke from the pole, it is first necessary to move the same so that the clip C secured thereto extends substantially at right angles to the hanger A. The hanger A is then rotated until the neck-yoke is brought to a po- 5 sition below the pole, which will cause the flange of the pole to emerge from the recess a in the hanger A through the lip a and onto the thin ortion of the clip 0 surrounding the crossar a sli V ped off the end of the pole.
f do not desire to limit myself to theprecise form and construction shown in the drawings, as it is obvious that many minor changes might be made thereto without de- 10 5 parting from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a neck-yoke, of a pole-hanger rovided with a recess to accomno modate the holdback-flange of the pole, and a clip connecting said hanger with the necke The neck-yoke can then be yoke, said clip having a projection extending normally beyond the plane of said recess.
2. The combination with a neck-yoke, of a substantially U-shaped pole-hanger provided on its interior with an inwardly-extending recess to accommodate the holdback-fiafi ge of the pole and one of the arms of said hanger having an outwardly-extending lip affording an entrance to said recess, and means pivotally connecting said hanger to the neck yoke.
3. The combination with a neck-yoke, of a substantially U-shaped hanger provided on its interior with an inwardly-extending recess to accommodate the holdback-fiange of the pole, one of the arms of said hanger having an outwardly-extending lip affording an entrance to said recess, and a clip pivotally the pole, one of the arms of said hanger being provided with means affording an entrance togsaid recess, a cross-bar rigidly connecting the upper ends of the arms of said hanger, a clip secured to the neck-yoke and loosely embracing the cross-bar of the hanger, a portion of said clip extending normally beyond the plane of the entrance to said recess.
5. The combination with a neck-yoke, of a substantially U-shaped pole-hanger secured thereto and provided on its interior with. an inwardly-extending recess to accommodate the holdbacl -fia11ge of the pole, said hanger having an outwardly-extending lip a'll'ording an entrance to said recess.
6. The combination with a neck-yoke, of a substantially U-shaped hanger provided on its interior with an.inwardly-extending recess to accommodate the holdback-flange of the pole, and a clip pivotally connecting the upper end of said hanger with the neck-yoke, said clip being provided with a portion normally projecting beyond the plane of the entrance to said. recess.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
