To ad whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD A.l KAHNV i and RALPH A. SDIGLE, citizens ofthe United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of arion and State of Indiana, have invented -a new and useful Display Device, of which the following is a specification.
rFhis invention relates to devices for displaying fabrics of various kinds-such as carpets, mattings, hangings, curtain material, and the like-andwhich may also be employed for displaying samples of wall-paper and similar goods, and has for its object to provide la drum mounted for rotation and having means for detachably connecting the samples of goods thereto in position to beindependently displayed and' also independently attached or detached to lchange the samples as required. l
"With ythese and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is 'better understood, the same consists in certain ynovel features of construction, as hereinafter fullydescribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred proved device.
form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation.
In the, drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the im- Fig. 2 is a transverse section enlarged. i y
The improved device comprises a drum 10 of any desired size and mounted upon a shaft y1 1, the latter supported for rotation in a frame 12 of any suitable form, and preferablywith bearings 13, having. rollers or balls 14 to reduce the friction. 10 is provided .with spaced longitudinal f grooves 15, substantially U-shaped in crosssection, and with end ilanges'l 17, forming closures to the ends of the grooves and preferably of greater diameter than the drum. The flanges 16 17 are provided,vv respectively, with spaced transverse slot-like apertures 18 19, elongated radially of the drum, with the bottoms of the apertures in alinement with the bottoms of the grooves in the drum and the tops ystopping short of the tops of the grooves, each groove thus having slots at 4the ends leading through the flanges. Rods 20 are disposed in the channels 15 and extend through the slots 18 19, each with a head 21 Thesurface of the drum upon one end and a nut 22 upon the other end, bearing, respectively, against the outer faces o f the end flanges 16 17 the saidrods bearing against the bottom of the U-shaped groove,l but being of `smaller diameter than the curve of the groove.
By this simple arrangement samples of fabrics of various kindsfsu'ch asfcarpets, mattings, curtain material, hangings, and the like, (indicated at 23)-ma'y be quickly secured in position upon the drum by folding one end and inserting it into the channels or grooves 15 and th throu h one of the the fo? slots 16 or 17 and Within d of the fabric and thence through the en inserting the rod y2v() other aperture andapplyingthe binding-nut,
the slotted form of the rodsto be compressed tightly against the portion of the fabric'within the channels, and thus hold them in position when the nuts are applied The slotted apertures thus permit the apertures permitting the rods to be adjustedto fabrics of different thicknesses, as Ywill be obvious.
If required, transversely-disposed staples 24 may be inserted at one or more points as an additional holding means.
The drums may be of any required size either in diameter as many of the grooves as required and of or length and may contain any size'tocorrespond to different kinds or thicknesses of fabric or other goods.
. The device may be inexpensively con-` structed and employed to .advantage in wholesale or retail stores.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A display device comprising a rotatabledrum provided with rooves in its peri hery disposed longitudinalcly and substantially U- shaped in cross-section, rodsk disposed longitudinally within the grooves-and means to secure the rods at varying distances from th bottoms of the grooves. i l
2. A display device comprising a rotatable drum provided With rooves in its periphery disposed longitudinal y and'substantially U- shaped in cross-section, iianges carried at the ends of the drum andprovided Withradial slots registering at t Aeir lower ends with the bottom of the grooves, rods inserted through alined slots and disposed within the grooves and means of securing the rods at varying'dis-v Y 'tances from the bottoms of the'fgrooves.
3. A display device comprising a rotatable drum provided with grooves in its periphery IIO disposed longitudinally and substantially U- langes to secure the rods at varying distances shaped in Gross-section, flanges carried at the from the bottoms of the grooves.
