i. I VENTILATbn., I
Nq. 823,35 d! Specification of Letters Patent. I
' Patented June 12, 1906.
Application filed August 21, 1905. Serial No. 275,032.
.To a/ZZ whom t'miay concern:
Be it knownl that I, HOLLIS LINTON MOR- RILL, a citizen'of the United States, and a resident of Monticello, in the county of Aroos- Maine, have made certalnv i my improved ventilator 1n place. `Fig. 2 is a I5 section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the present application of my invention I provide a triangmar late A, one of whose angles a is a right ang e, and a part of the zo plate is out away, as at a', to Yform a trianguar opening having an area less than half the area of the late, the said triangular opening having ang es similar to the angles. of the trian ar plate. ange a,2 is arranged uponthe side of the triangular plate o posite to the right angle, the outer edge lo the flange being shaped u on the arc of a circle havin a radius somewhat greater than the altitude of the triangular plate. The de th of the flange is equal to the thickness of tliie windowane, so that when the ventilatr isiny place t e surface of the plate and the surface of the windowpane vwill be lushwith each other.
A triangular cover B is pivoted by its apex to the apex of the triangular plate by means of the screw b', the cover being of an area sufiicient to cover the triangular opening whenv 1n one position. 4o At each of the lower angles of the triangular plate are arran ed blocks c, to which are selcured a segmental guard C, the guard being longitudinally slotted, as at c', for a vpurpose to be hereinafter described. The se ental guard overlaps the free end of the tr1angular plate, the sald ard being formed upon the arc of a circle w ose radius is equal to that of the altitude of the triangular cover. A latch D is provided for securing the cover in its adjusted position, the latch comprising a screw s ot and engagmg the cover, a cam-shaped arm d being arsection on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a a triangular openm ranged above the guard and a knob d2, rigid with the arm, bein provided for convenience in manipulatinget e same. When the arm is turned so that the cam-sha gages the guard, the cover is ocked thereto.
In practical use my im roved ventilator is inserted in the corner ofp a window-pane, a triangular section of glass being removed for the reception thereof. The edge of the glass rests against the flange and is maintained in contact therewith by means of the cover on the opposite side. By manipulating the latch on the cover the same may be adjusted to give any desired degree of opening, or the openlng may be entirely closed.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A ventilator adapted to be fitted in the corner of a window-pane and comprising a triangular plate, one of whose angles is a right angle, the
half the area of the plate, a flange on' the side of the plate opposlte the light angle, a sub-- stantia ly triangular plate ivoted by Iits a ex to the a ex of the irst late and ada te tojclose tiiey opening, a s otted guard or the free end of the second plate, and secured to the irst plate at either end, and a latch for the second ersing the slot in the second plate, a cam-s aped arm on t e screw for engaging the guard and a knob above the arm.
2. A ventilator comprising a triangular plate adapted to be fitted in the corner of a window-pane, the plate being provided with atone side thereof, a flange on the plate or enga lng the edge of the window-pane, a cover or the opening pivoted to the plate, a uard for limitlngthe motion of the cover, and a latch for the cover and a'ving a cam-shaped arm for engaging the guard.
3. A ventilator comprising a triangular plate having a triangular opening of less extent than half the area of the plate and adapted to be itted ,in the corner of a windowed portion en- I plate having a triangular opening therethrough of less area than oneplate comprising a screwtrav-V uard and enga ing said complrising a screw connected with the cover,
IOO
pane,`a cover for the opening pivoted to the plate, a guard for limiting the motonof the cover, alatoh for securing the cover nts ad- I the cover, end e latch on the cover for en justed position, and means on the plete for gagging the guard to secure the cover in its 1c engaglixng the eldge of the Window-pane, position of adjustment.
4. venti ator, com risin a, substan- Tm tially triangular plate, adptedgto be fitted in HOLLFO LD' 10N MORRIL" the corner of a Window-pane and havingan Witnesses: o ening therethrough, a cover pivoted to the JAS. V. HOYT, p ate, a guard for h miting the movement of FLORENCE P, STACKPOLE.
